EA announces The Sims 3 is their most successful PC launch ever:

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., June 9, 2009 – Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS) today announced that the hotly anticipated The Sims™ 3, stormed retail shelves starting June 2nd and sold thru more than 1.4 million PC/Mac units within the first week making it the best-selling PC launch in EA’s history. Piracy's main benefit was that users could use it as a tool to threaten publishers from making changes to games and the industry as a whole based on greed. Unfortunately the opposite effect has occurred, publishers simply took their ball and went somewhere else to play. I'd say piracy as a whole has failed at making any substantial point on consumer power or morals. Five years ago I would have said that piracy was helping the industry as it gave us the power to help shape it but the more grown up version of me these days realizes it's only perpetuating the problem and driving publishers elsewhere.
