FADE is unique to BIS form of copy protection, they put in subroutines that apparently check to see if you're using the right exe (some sort of CRC check I assume), rather than having the game kick you out to the desktop it "degrades" the gameplay in various ways such as making your weapons very inaccurate or turning the player into a bird after X amount of game time.
at the end of that video you can see him miss multiple fairly well aimed shots.
the motion-blur effect is part of the graphics engine, supposedly you get more motion-blur effect the poorer your performance is while running the game, something about averaging frames to smooth out gameplay. There's a tread on BIS's forums talking about it, some people don't like it and are asking for an option to turn it off. I turn all post-processing effects to low but it doesn't remove stuff like HDR lighting and motion-blur completely. |

Thanks for the info. It also appears that switching from one view point to another is a bit faster. Also with the 3rd person perspective will the TrackIR still be needed?
It looks like a nice improvement over ArmA(1) but I'm sure there will still be some quirky stuff that can get irritating at times. Usually the good times outweigh the bad.
Oh, is FADE the blur effect or some kind of DRM? Either way I plan on buying it soon. Not going to import this time or buy from Poland though.

wonky character movements? sort of fixed, I mean you won't be switching weapons as fast as say Battlefield or Call of Doody game but it feels a little smoother than in ArmA - mostly because you move a little faster than in ArmA. You won't be bunny hopping (there's no jump at all), you won't be diving to the ground for a prone position and firing off rounds all in one blindingly fast action.
Couple of things that can make the game feel "broken", one is that your computer is too slow to run the game with the graphic options you selected - performance lag. The other is there is a "feature" where your aim point can float independent of where you're looking, there's a slider to control that so if you want your weapon to be at a fixed point that matches where you're looking all the time you just slide it to a zero setting. The last is FADE of course, see this video for what that looks like
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pv5D7uHgoyM
One negative carry over from ArmA is that you can't interrupt animations, you'll notice in lots of youtube videos things like reload animations playing even though the person is dead but might have enacted the reload command right before being shot. |

Can anyone already playing ArmA 2 answer a few questions for me, please?
I know they fixed the no-reloading while moving at the same time shit but did they fix the wonky character movements? The latest videos make it appear as if the character movements are a bit faster less laggy. Are they faster/smoother with only lite weapons? Please, tell me all weapons don't play as if they are heavy to maneuver... taking between two and five seconds to get optimal aiming for a more decent shot?
I enjoy the realism angle but at times the heavy weapons feel the character has in ArmA gets on my nerves. I can understand if it's a large weapon but not all weapons should feel like your character is having a hard time using it.

Wait, FADE gives you a mini-pirate flag if you don't properly crack the game?
I must say, this copy-protection is pretty awesome. |

So you guys whine because your cracked copy has fade (the copy protection that has been in BIS games since OFP)?
Anyways, I cant understand all the flaming. I am playing it already and its a very good game, actually the best PC (!!!) game since Supreme Commander. Sure there are a few flaws but nothing really game breaking. Also the AI is very strong actually, if you switch them to the highest setting. One of the best Ive ever seen actually. A huge improvement over ArmA 1.
But I really dont care if idiots who believe blindly in this bullshit talking in reviews dont play the game. Well, I do. That way it less idiots in mp games for us people who enjoy it. The mature community of OFP and ArmA has always been a very huge plus.
They can go play their "awesome" console ports instead.

with the 1.01 beta patch and the crack that goes with it as well as the english language mod and some .cfg tweaking the game runs and plays quite well. haven't had any issues with FADE yet oh yes you have, go to the tutorial missions and do the firing range, you might get "lucky" and shoot enough targets with your rifle to move on to the pistol range but with the pistol you'll only hit dirt.
you can still play the game but it's mighty frustrating hah. |

I see the fanyboys who were 12 when Opflash came out and think it is the best game ever invented and who blindly believe BIS can do no wrong are at it again. Wow man. No one mentioned your name. Why are you being so defensive?

Codemasters stopped using FADE years ago. BIS you mean. Fade was used on Arma 1.

I tried the German version and absolutely loved it! I'm gonna buy it the moment its released here in NA. As for the squad commands, I don't have too much experience with Arma 1 and Flashpoint but it seems much easier to command, at least for simple commands. For instance you just press the space bar or whatever key and issue a move, regroup, etc. Or you can open up certain menus with more specific and complex commands if needed.
The biggest surprise to me so far was how well it ran on my computer! Arma 1 ran like shit and looks like shit compared to this

"if you're a milsim nut this game is a wet dream"
Question. How is the squad command layout? Is it at all streamlined compared to either ARMA 1, or Flashpoint? Minimal keyboard mashing? Thx.

I pre-ordered it on steam and pirated the german release in the meantime to familiarize myself with the game.

I had a fucking blast playing it last night with a friend over hamachi in campaign COOP. (yes you can play the entire SP campaign with up to 4 friends)
if you're a milsim nut this game is a wet dream if you have the hardware to run it.
