Ships Ahoy - Plants vs. Zombies

PopCap Games announces they are now offering online sales of Plants vs. Zombies, and that the action/strategy game is also now available on other digital distribution outlets. A playable demo for the game was released yesterday, and here's a bit on the game:

Featuring five different modes of play, Plants vs. Zombies presents you with a front lawn and encroaching zombies striving to reach your front door and defeat you. Choose from an ever-increasing assortment of specialized, zombie-battling plants to slow down, confuse, weaken and ultimately destroy the vegetation-munching undead before they can traverse your yard and reach your front door. Thoughtful selection of plants, judicious use of resources and clever planting/placement decisions are key to overcoming more than two dozen different kinds of zombies, each with its own combination of “skills” and behaviors. Additional obstacles and challenges in later levels include the setting of the sun, a creeping fog that obscures part of your view – even a swimming pool that takes up much of your lawn.

Amen brother! This is the best "casual" game I've ever seen for that price, heck better than many 2 or 3 times that price too.

Metacritic is showing 91 with 9 reviews, so looks like others agree too

This game is fucking awesome. I just spent three straight hours at work playing it (hehe).

I nearly pissed myself laughing when the Michael Jackson zombie showed up.

There is no game you can buy for ten dollars that's cooler than this. None.

Elf Shot The Food:

Yeah I know, IMHO stalin vs martians quite frankly stank, even as a casual game. Compare the amount of content you get for that price to what Plants vs Zombies give, you get 100 times more content and 100 times the quality for about the same money.

PopCap is seriously one of the strangest developers around. They're like the Pixar of game devs. With their games, the level of entry is low enough for casual and younger gamers yet there's enough depth to it all for more hardcore players. Their games can get crazy difficult at the higher levels! Truly E for everyone and not diluted.

I guess I'm adding this to my PopCap collection. Peggle, Peggle Nights, Zuma and Heavy Weapon so far.

For ten bucks I have to pick this up. Strange that it's so much cheaper with Steam than from Popcap themselves? I'd rather buy it from Popcap directly, but not if it's 100% more expensive...

Easily worth the $10. It was horking on my Xonar DX at first, but a system restart seems to have cleared everything up. Unusual, but no worries now.

Damn popcap... I wanted to not like it, but I do have a weakness for tower defense games. And it is good (so far)

Agreed, very fun game. If you like tower defense style games this is one of the best ones I've played so far.

This game is fucking awesome! Best $10 I've spent in a long time, very simple, addicting gameplay with LOADS of content. It's also getting achievements too.

Much better than Defense Grid if you ask me.

PC Gamer reviewer gave it a 90% score, and said it was one of the most addictive games he's ever played. I think I'll give it a whirl.

Well worth the $10 from steam!

(popcap is selling for $20, so save yourself some money and get it from steam )

Savegames are compatible from the popcap version demo/trial and full version (I played on popcap early trial yesterday and moved the savegame to steam version).
