Battlefield 1943 on Consoles First

DICE announces the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of Battlefield 1943 will be released in June, while the Windows edition of the World War II multiplayer shooter will follow in September. They also announce a $15.00 price point for the game, which will be digitally distributed on all three platforms:

Stockholm, Sweden – April 23, 2009 – DICE, an Electronic Arts Inc. studio (NASDAQ: ERTS), today announced that Battlefield 1943™ will be available in June for $15 USD in the Xbox LIVE™ Marketplace (1200 MS Points) or the PlayStation®Store. The action-packed arcade title will also be available for PC in September. Battlefield 1943 is an all-new multiplayer game that offers endless hours of 24-player action in popular maps inspired by Battlefield 1942™, now updated with the Frostbite™ engine. The total destructibility afforded by the Frostbite engine ups the ante and leaves players with nowhere to hide.

In Battlefield 1943, intense battles ensue over three classic and tropic locations; Wake Island, Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima. Gamers play as the US Marines or the Imperial Japanese Navy, competing by land, air and sea. Players have the freedom to pick their path in battle - be it as a rifleman crawling through the trenches, a steel fisted tank commander, or a dog fighting pilot that protects the skies.

“Using the same Frostbite engine that we developed for Battlefield: Bad Company, we are able to take players back to WWII and return to the roots of the Battlefield franchise, but with a new twist – destruction,” said Gordon Van Dyke, Producer on Battlefield 1943. “We want to offer gamers the most accessible online shooter experience and the best value found in any premium download title with Battlefield 1943.”

I'm still holding out for Betamax. The VHS/Beta wars are NOT over yet!

At least they could release an all-in-one Bluray/HDDVD/VHS/BETAMAX/Laserdisc player.

Do you honestly believe that BF3 will be a good game, considering DICE's track record? It's been all downhill since 1942.

The reason it is coming in Sept. for PCs: DICE is going to nickle and dime console gamers with map packs for 1943. Then they are going to release the PC version with all the maps that console gamers had to pay extra for.

This must be for people who never played 1942, hell you can still play the bfdemo that has wake for free and not have to bother with the horrible shit map Guadalcanal and the somewhat less bad Iwo Jima. 15 USD to be able to break down a few walls and a bridge with dumbed down gameplay and 1 good map, don't think so. Make bf3.

Do people still use their PSP to watch porn? Hasn't the iPod basically taking over that entire market?

The last thing i used my PSP for was playing Day of the Tentacle and Monkey Island via that emulation software.

Do you know how many people I know with mod chips or soft mods in their consoles? What do you think that last P stands for in PSP?

I don't know, 8? Did I get it right? Is there a prize? Don't keep me waiting, I'm excited!

While I think the game is likely to be crap, and I'm not interested in it in the slightest, I do have to give them a little credit for the $15 price point.

As it should be since most PC gamers are unapologetic pirates anyways.

Dice is pretty good about that, it'll probably get one. I can't recall a BF game without a demo.

All games sold on the Xbox Live Marketplace have a trial built into them. (XBLA titles at least, the older Xbox titles don't) So 360 owners will be able to download it and try it...Exactly what "try" means is a big question. Typically they don't let you play an online game so the main feature of this game won't be available...maybe an offline mode...?

The only stuff that doesn't have a trial built in is DLC which I don't think this is. Maybe the trial will be letting you run around on the map alone playing with the different vehicles? Offline practice mode with bots would be nice but I'm not holding my breath.

I say that because bf1943 will be out on consoles first, the pc is not going to get much resources devoted to it and thus be an afterthought on the PC and thus blow.

Bummer. It's funny, Dragon Age PC gets yanked back by consoles and BF1943 PC gets left behind while console versions come out months ahead.

Still looking forward to at least trying it to see if it recaptures some of the old school fun with new tech.

Im on the close beta and Heroes it is without a doubt the biggest bag of shit ive ever seen, anyone who is dying to get on this will be within seconds of playin be so disappointed. The only people who will be loving it will be the little kiddies, who will be thinking and acting out they are 1337..

However, 1943 will be just for kiddies, so they can make out they are playing a proper Battlefield war game, where you will have unlimited ammo and regen health. Oh Dice this sounds so cool a game...NOT!!!
