Jack Thompson Warned

The Salt Lake Tribune reports that Utah Senate President Michael Waddoups may be looking into prosecuting crusading crusader Jack Thompson under the federal CAN-SPAM Act of 2003 over email harassment. The last straw was apparently an Easter morning email containing a lap dance screenshot from Grand Theft Auto IV that Thompson sent as part of his efforts at overturning the veto of the Utah games bill he helped author. "I asked you before to remove me from your mailing list," Waddoups replied to Thompson, saying, "I supported your bill but because of the harassment will not again. If I am not removed, I will turn you over to the AG for legal action." There is also a post about this on the Utah Senate Site Website (thanks GamePolitics) where the author of the post apparently opened his copy of the mail in church on his Blackberry. As usual, Thompson's response indicates that people just don't understand that his actions are eternally above reproach: "As disturbing as the image is, it's something an adult ought to be able to handle looking at. There are two women who are clad and a guy's looking at them," they quote Thompson saying. "I would love to be being tried criminally for writing a state senator an e-mail with something he thinks is pornographic but who is not offended by the fact that children can buy this."

Jack Thompson stated "As disturbing as the image is, it's something an adult ought to be able to handle looking at"...

Kind of ironic, considering he's doing everything in his power to try and criminalize games, so that adult's CAN'T look at them.

Add hypocrisy to his growing list of character traits.

As much as I disagree with JT I disagree even more with Michael Waddoups' response.

AFAIK Jack Thompson doesn't live in Utah.

So there's a huge difference between being spammed by a non-constituent vs. being spammed by someone you serve. Especially if that person in question has a history of being overly obsessive.

Pretty much, until Jack moves to Utah and has "X" amount of time of residency (different in different States)... he has every right to tell Jack to go pound sand.

I hope Jacky gets to visit jail for a while. It would do him some good.

As for the "tea parties"; there are an awful lot of people that need jobs, taking time off from work for a mock (and extremely disingenuous) protest may open yours up to someone that really wants to work.

Jack needs to be institutionalized.

He already is.

Lol, nationwide! It's an faux hyped, astro-turf front group funded by couple of psychopath billionaires. 95% of Americans got a tax cut, everyone making less than 250k, who they hell else would complain about a fucking taxcut?

The fact that you somehow correlate "tea party" with taxcuts would be a waste of my time to even try and explain. In a nutshell they have nothing to do with taxcuts, or even taxes.

As much as I disagree with JT I disagree even more with Michael Waddoups' response. If a dissatisfied citizen in Utah, or anywhere for that matter, decides they want something, and the only means to get it is to constantly try to contact their political representative (in this case Utah Senate President Michael Waddoups for JT's campaign), and the response is "I will turn you over to the AG for legal action" this probably signals how most politicians feel about you, the citizenry.

This action comes on the heels of nationwide tea parties taking place today to protest irresponsible government.

Whacko Jacko doesn't live in Utah and, consequently, is not a part of his constituency so your point is moot. Also, Whacko Jacko has a long history of harassment, read some excerpts from his disbarment trial sometime, the things he has done is so far beyond the pale of any acceptable behavior that there is no defense whatsoever.

Should any political party attempt to abolish social security, unemployment insurance, and eliminate labor laws and farm programs, you would not hear of that party again in our political history.....and they are stupid. Dwight D. Eisenhower

Government's response to the people

Care to elaborate?

More seriously, if you actually believe that fiction you're needing to get a better news source.

Any suggestions?

What has that clever piece of AstroTurf got to do with this?

How is Bizzaro world treating you? Perhaps next you'll trip and fall up.

Waddoups sounds like a drama queen. What's he doing opening a work related e-mail on the sabbath? Shame shame..

I think these two goofballs deserve each other.
