Paying for dedicated servers? The game doesn't have a server browser, it's one of those "play now" type games.
Good luck Dice, good luck. |

The owning a server thing doesn't strike me as being all that useful, "king of the castle" and all that. Because of the whole 'casual' angle, I don't see enough clans/groups interested enough to invest in a server. Probably their best bet would be to let the server owner show an ad between rounds. Then we might see companies (say, Logitech, etc.), investing in some servers.
I got a beta key a few days ago. It's alright I guess. I have fun playing it. The simplicity is nice in its way. It does feel repetitive though. I've only put two or three hours in and I'm already getting a little bored. I can definitely see myself loading it up for a half-hour here and there though.
I'll be interested to see how it goes. I'm not at all opposed to the model. I'm perfectly happy to look at some ads or whatever if the game itself is otherwise free to play. |

"...offering a unique opportunity to pay to beta test a free game"
Har! I did a double-take on that line and had a good laugh (thanks...I needed that). It's true though -the way a lot of a-holes are rushing buggy/unfinished product onto store shelves nowadays, paying to beta-test commercial games has become a fact of life for PC gamers, so paying to beta-test a free one is indeed unique! Must be some game-devs idea of payback for piracy. |

All of the 'beta key' rubbish is entirely an exercise in artificial scarcity, and has nothing to do with improvement of the product. I find it amusing that they've both invented the artificial scarcity and then gone on to invent a paid method of getting around it, which also happens to invalidate the spin regarding the 'quality' hosting they were putting out only a week or two ago.
Its only ever going to be an 'ok' game, half of the code and assets are cut-and-pasted out of a game many of us already own, and this whole process is textbook smoke and mirrors. Nice observation and insightful. Well said. |

The worst thing is the extensive beta makes the uninformed think that its probably unstable. |

| OT: I started playing that game Red Orchestra that is on sale this weekend on Steam (4.99). Damn that game is AWESOME, the realism is very cool & the vehicles are a lot of fun too. Tons of maps & some great servers out there with a good community. If your not into realism though & slower more tactical team based playing dont bother with this you wont like it. |
