Slate Magazine - Should the United
States ban a Japanese "rape simulator" game?
"Considering the impossibility of policing the Internet, as well as the
availability of English RapeLay translations and forums for years before any
politician caught wind of the game, it's unrealistic to think that the game
could be banished from America. Very few Japanese developers make an effort
to sell eroge to the West, and those that do, like Peach Princess and
G-Collections, make content modifications to suit foreign norms and laws.
(For example, all underage characters' ages get rounded up to 18, no matter
how young the character looks.) These Westernized versions are sold in the
United States via import sites like J-List and Play-Asia. Neither company
sells RapeLay, but they do offer the popular eroge Yume Miru Kusuri. That
game, while more edgy than it is violent, does focus on sex-crazed,
underage-looking high schoolers with drug problems and suicide fetishes.
RapeLay is appalling, but titles like Yume Miru Kusuri—sold in America after
being unconvincingly modified so the protagonists are "18," making it tough
to peg the games as outright illegal—would make far more constructive
targets for political outrage."
Edge
Online - Why the -Age of Steam- May Not Last? By Brad Wardell, CEO of
Stardock, operator of Impulse.
"It's far too soon to assume that Steam will continue to dominate five years
out. Thus far, it has largely operated without serious competition. With
other services such as Impulse, Games for Windows Live, Amazon.com,
GamersGate and others upping their own services with unique and compelling
features, expanding their catalogs, and focusing on providing good customer
experiences, I would be very surprised if Steam continues to have such a
large market share (as a percentage) even 18 months from now."
CNET - Is the
video game industry losing the PR battle?
"Based on what I've seen so far from the industry, it's willing to take a
beating from government, lawyers, authors, and concerned groups and it does
little to fight back. Meantime, I receive e-mails from parents on an almost
daily basis asking me why video games are so bad for their kids. Whenever
that happens, I write them a short but informative e-mail saying, 'They're
not as bad as some groups say and here's research to prove it.'"

That works both ways champ. If you exclude all of the XBLA, DLC and so on games then the Xbox only has "blockbusters" I'm not sure why you have quotation marks around "blockbusters." I've never said that consoles only have blockbusters. On the other hand, you explicitly stated that PC's only have MMOs.
Here's a proper quote to refresh your memory: "Or perhaps they just enjoy the console games more because there's more of them and they aren't all MMOs."
In any case, even if you include XBLA and DLC, the PC still has far, far more games than the 360.
Sims has had console versions in the past and I question the "high-profile" nature of some of those titles. Yeah, some of the Sims games were eventually ported to consoles. However, the PC versions were superior and much more successful.
As for the definition of high-profile, high profile = lots of people know about it. Lots of people know about the games I mentioned. Obviously console games are higher-profile than most PC games but that doesn't really have anything to do with quality.
No one said they were inferior. In fact I said exactly the opposite, that there is little difference between platforms these days since they all share many aspects now. I think you should go back and actually read Z9000's posts. He's very clearly stated that consoles have more, better games than the PC. Since most current-gen games are multiplatform, he's obviously referring to exclusives.
And here's a quote from you: "With the PC you get a few blockbusters every year which is fine but consoles are more consistent."
You are claiming that having more blockbusters (games with big development and marketing budgets) is better than having more obscure games.
You're the one making claims about superiority and so on here. Yes, I am because it's a fact. A Ferrari is superior to a Chevy station wagon, even if you really love that station wagon. PC's can have more powerful hardware: Fact. PC's have more control schemes: Fact. Most PC ports have higher resolutions, framerates and tighter controls: Fact.
You think the mouse is a superior input device and for many genres that is true. This isn't the case with every type of game though and conveniently you try to sweep that away. What are you talking about? I explicitly stated in a previous post that one of the advantages of the PC over consoles is the variety of controllers. You have gamepads, steering wheels, joysticks, arcade sticks, M/KB, etc, and you can choose the best controller for any given genre.
No they're not, that's a user specific scenario. Exactly. USER-specific problems have nothing to do with PC gaming's superiority as a platform. If a user is too cheap/stupid to get a proper gaming rig, that's his problem. Flexibility is a key part of PC gaming's appeal. If you don't care about graphics, you don't need a high-end system. If you're a graphics whore, you can triple SLI 295 GTXs to your heart's delight. PC's provide gamers with the ability to improve their experience. Consoles do not.
Actually I notice the PC is pretty lacking in most of those genres you just mentioned too but that's neither here nor there. The PC is lacking in those genres when compared to the 90's, sure. It's definitely not lacking when compared to consoles.
Your arguments are too biased to take seriously anymore, when it's convenient you define games as simply blockbusters and lump them all together for the Xbox while ignoring all of the excellent titles that aren't Gears of War 2 or Halo 3 but when it's the PC suddenly every little indie game ever made should be considered along with it's few high profile games. Again, what are you talking about? I've never said that consoles only have blockbusters. Seriously, find me a quote. No luck? Okay, let's get back to the facts:
1) Most current-gen (360, PS3) console games are multiplatform and are released on the PC. 2) Consoles do have good exclusives that don't receive the same hype as Gears of War or Halo. But this also applies to PC. 3) The PC has more games than any single console platform. If you take every console ever made and lump them together as one platform, obviously that will provide some competition. But even if you combined the 360, PS3 and Wii, PC would have more games. 4) Consoles have more games in certain genres, like fighting, beat'em-ups, party games, JRPGs, etc. PC's have more games in other genres, like strategy, shooter, RPG, adventure, space sim, flight sim, racing sim, war sim, etc. If you prefer the genres more prevalent on consoles, that's fine but it doesn't mean that consoles have more (or better) games.
Your argument is that "PCs are better because I said so" which is pretty stupid and juvenile. Reading comprehension -1. Grossly inaccurate accusations +1. Let me summarize the various points I've been making throughout this debate. I'll even throw in a few I just thought of:
1) The PC is capable of higher resolutions, framerates, AA, AF, etc. 2) The PC has more controllers, letting you choose the best one for the job. 3) The PC versions of console games almost always look and perform better. 4) A mouse provides faster and more precise aiming than an analog stick. You might prefer an analog stick but that's purely subjective. Speed and accuracy are not. 5) A keyboard has more keys than a gamepad has buttons. 6) The PC has more games than any one console. 7) If you prefer to sit on a couch and play on a big TV, you can simply output your video to the TV and use wireless controllers. 8) Mods can make games look and play better. They can provide substantial new content and gameplay, greatly extending the longevity of any given game. CS, DotA, Tower Defense, Day of Defeat, Garry's Mod, Project Reality, Team Fortress, Black Mesa Source, Obscuro's Oblivion Overhaul... anybody who's played a multiplayer (or Bethesda) PC game can attest to the benefit of mods and many single-player games have benefit as well. 9) Dedicated servers. Peer-to-peer hosting sucks and is not conducive to low-latency gameplay with many players. 10) There are no fees to play non-MMO games online (this is specifically an advantage over Xbox Live). 11) The average PC game is $10-20 cheaper than the console version which helps offset the increased price of entry if you play a lot of games.
And that's why the PC is a superior platform. Feel free to refute those with facts of your own. I'm guessing any rebuttals will ultimately boil down to "consoles are more convenient."
