Chris Chung (CEO NC West) during the quarterly earning Conference call (near the end)
Basically, when we started Guild Wars 2, it was going to be a typical sequal of a well-established franchise, and during development we decided that there was a much bigger opportunity for Guild Wars 2, and we're going to make sure we come out with a product to the market that is, you know, much bigger than what Guild Wars (2) could have been. So, we're revamping a lot of technology and a lot of systems and putting a whole lot more content into the game, so that when it does come out it will be in line with our corporate goal which is to provide a rich and expansive world to the users. I think everyone will be pleased with the quality and quantity that goes into Guild Wars 2.

GW2 release slated for one month after Duke Nukem Forever. News at 10.
Pushing a release date back "one to two years" is NOT good. Not ever. It means there a problem, one that's big and might not be solvable. |

| ArenaNet promised Guild Wars 2 won't have monthly fees. Even if the game fails to become the saviour of all MMO gaming, at least it will keep Blizzard's current theorizing how to make Battle.net functions a pay for service in check. |

And here I was worried that I wont be able to finish all the campaigns with every class. But I was willing to put GW behind me.
So not happy about the delay... was really looking fwd to it. Although it was kind of obvious that this year was too soon if you consider how much has actually been released to the public. I would guess 2011 as PR (Advertising) usually takes AT LEAST 2 years.  |

GW is anything but "just pressing some buttons and clicking on the mouse".
PvP is a complex skill and build system management in a real time strategy fashion guild type of game.
Many people don't even know that and think GW is just another online RPG. |

| Diablo III isn't even close to looking like the game mechanics of Guild Wars, and presumably GW 2 will be an advanced iteration of the GW gameplay. D3 and GW2 won't really be direct competitors regardless of when they are released. |

I'm not a blind worshipper, I don't like Warcraft, Starcraft, or WoW. But I'm like the posterboy for Action RPG maniacs. I've been dying slowly inside waiting for more Diablo. Titan Quest was OK, Dungeon Siege was good... but it's not Diablo. I need Diablo. I *NEED* more Diablo. With games of the size and scope of Guild Wars and Diablo, it's going to be one or the other, and I have the distinct feeling it'll end up being Diablo for most people.
Of course that's assuming they come out near each other. Diablo III could be coming in 2015 based on the non release date Starcraft II has going for it. |

Why? I realize that Blizzard has millions of blind worshippers, but if GW2 is decent it will sell. How sad it would be if it did not.
Shit we don't even know if Diablo 3 will suck ass yet. It may, you know. Putting loads of faith into unreleased games is a sign of noob-dom. Even a game from the apparently loved-by-all Blizzard.
But what the hell do I know. The only Blizzard game I have played to any extent in the past 5 years is the original Diablo. The vast majority (all?) of the people who made that game are long gone from Blizzard. They went to places like, say, NCSoft and to that Flagship place. GW is an awful lot like an evolved take on Diablo 2 gameplay.
