Out of the Blue

Happy Valentines Day! For those celebrating romance today, here's to you, hope it's all great. And to those who are single, just go with the flow and put your feet up on the table, happy there's nobody to yell at you for it. And for those eschewing the whole thing as a rejection of commercial pressures to participate, good for you, the man needs a good sticking-to every now and then. I'm sure there's a category I missed, but I think that covers a majority of the scenarios.

I liked the movie. It wasn't too bad.

Cutter might be an okay guy.

Escape was very nice. Extreeeemly nice that Valve liked it, and as someone else said, didn't sue the fuckers.

They put it up on their billboard. You can't get kudos better than that? Can you?

I'm allergic to Will Smith, though, so I doubt I'll ever watch the movie.
I am Legend, IMHO, is the closest he has come to proper acting and I had to revise my opinion of his talents after watching this a few times. The movie itself can be relatively subtle and it's easy to miss things on the first viewing.

However people also have been missing things in the film because they had certain expectations of Will Smith. It simply didn't occur to quite a few people to look out for him actually acting in it, they expected the typical brash action movie. The main focus of the movie is actually Smith's character and he pulls it off surprisingly well.

too bad I Am Legend sucks total ball sacks.

I'm going through the book right now and it's pretty entertaining, at least. I'm allergic to Will Smith, though, so I doubt I'll ever watch the movie.

Go watch "I am Legend", Will Smith did an awesome job. At least IMO.
My favourite film of last year and a very good example to emphasise my point. To resolve the problem of having a single/lone good guy they:
1) repeatedly flashed back to the past,
2) played recordings of TV news conversations,
3) added good guys towards the end,
4) had him recording video diaries so that he could talk,
5) had him talking to mannequins,
6) had him talking to himself,
7) gave him a dog.

Heh, out at my broshacks place last weekend we got well into our cups. His wife was bombed. I mean 3 sheets to the wind. They end up having a massive brawl. And only a few hours earlier as we're sitting down for dinner - still civilized - and just starting the imbibing, she's chastising me for not having a serious girlfriend.

Her: Cutter, why don't you have a real girlfriend? You, handsome, smart, funny, et al. Isn't it time you stop just banging girls and settle down.

Me: Well, I guess I just haven't met Ms. Right yet.

Cue several hours later the "couple" screaming, yelling, breaking shit, fallind down.

A little while after that she goes to bed, me and the bro sitting don drinking some more when he pipes up very sarcastically, "Yeah, gee bro, why don't you have a wife? I mean can't you see I'm living the dream here." Much laughter ensues.

I tell you, unless you've ever worked in hospitality, you have no idea how brutal it is working Valentines day. Thee three worst days to work in this biz, in order.

1. St. Paddys. - or amatuer night as like to call it. Drunken asshole lightweights who can't handle their shit falling all over the place screaming for more green beer.
2. Mother's Day - families with bratty kids, all high maitenance and no tips.
3. Valentines Day - couples falling all over each other, also exceedingly high maitenance with guys trying to impress their dates with what a big shot they are - also very cheap.

Don't get me wrong, love is grand. But I'm of the old school "thunderbolt" type of love. I can honestly say I've only ever been in love 4 times in my 40 years on this planet. I don't date. I hook up. I bang. What have you. But I've never been able to understand how people can just decide to date and see if it evolves into something more. All 4 times it was entirely mutual, we looked at each other and BOOM! Ended up sepnding a few years with each other. Love isn't settling for what comes along.

and a mute one at that

Eh, he could have had his tongue removed in a prior altercation, and taken on the "strong, silent type" after that event. Or he simply wouldn't bother being anything except mute, letting his actions dictate who he is, rather than words. Of course, that wouldn't be canon.

I still think HL2/episodes would make for a good movie, or "film series" like Band of Brothers. I figure HL2 would adapt better than HL1 due to the additional characters... bit tricky making a film almost entirely with a single good guy, and a mute one at that.

Also at these theoretical high speeds if said undetectable matter had a gravitational effect on normal detectable matter would it's high velocity explain the ever speeding up "expansion" of the universe.

Upon further theoretical "crazy" thinking, if said matter were able to travel backward in time if time was relevant to the singularity as to a normal observer the matter pulled towards a black hole could essentially travel backwards in time to a time before the singularity existed at faster than light speeds which would make it undetectable by normal means aka dark matter. I'm sure all this has already been proven wrong tens of times but it sure would be cool.

What happens once matter is pulled towards the singularity at ever increasing speeds the matter would appear to slow down to us as time passes more slowly for a fast moving object the closer to the speed of light it gets? Perhaps it's mass becomes infinite as it reaches light speed or some unknown phenomena allows it to pass beyond the speed of light therefore theoretically going back in time, where would this matter end up then? Depending on the speed it attains should define how far back in time it travels. Interesting at least, something to chew on.
