New Stardock Studio & Game Plans

Independent developer and publisher Stardock announces plans to open a second development studio as part of an expansion of the company's game development efforts. Like their existing studio, the new branch will be based in Plymouth, Michigan, in part thanks to tax incentives "and access to better communication infrastructure." The new studio will employ about 50 developers, and will work on an unannounced RPG to be published by Stardock Entertainment.

The words 'Stardock' are 'RPG' are just pure computer game porn.

Edit : Elemental: War of Magic is kinda hard to get excited about with a 2/15/2010 release date. Even with it being a MoM successor.

HARD to get excited about? I start hyperventilating every time I even fucking THINK of Galciv2 meets MoM.

Actually Sins and Demigod were assisted in their development by Stardock. They contributed developers or something.

Elemental: War of Magic is kinda hard to get excited about with a 2/15/2010 release date. Even with it being a MoM successor.

Wonder if the the new studio will be working on the the MMO RPG type game Stardock has mentioned.

I'm slightly confused as to the high praise they've received here. They're best known for their crappy desktop customisation software and tacky casual games like The Political Machine. Their most successful title was Galactic Civilizations II, though it didn't even come close to CivIV in my books. Sins Of A Solar Empire and Demigod are only published by them, not developed by them. And Impulse still has a long way to go to even compete with Steam, though it definitely has potential.

I'm happy that they're expanding and I wish them luck but I have pretty low expectations based upon their current and previous work. I think they should stick to publishing.

Grats Stardock! Just don't get too big for your britches. And for the love of all things holy, don't sell out, you can go it alone. If you listen to the lies of EA and Activision, they'll most likely help you to the unemployment line.

Way ahead of you: Dreamscapes, WB and Object Dock.

You haven't computed until you have an animated desktop. It is pretty freaking cool.

I'd catapult money at them by the great heaping gob-fulls if I could and if it meant getting more of what they are selling.

Do what I did, pick up some of the desktop customization stuff. I did so without expecting to use any of it, and now some of it is always running on my desktop.

I haven't pre-ordered Demigod or Elemental simply because I don't want to beta test, and I don't want to play the betas. If I had 'em available, I wouldn't be able to resist. Both games are instant buys for me when they launch, though.

Have they ever made an RPG before? I'd be interested to see what they come up with.

Bioware is slowly shifting to my dubious pile as an RPG developer. Too much console in my coffee.

Good. Great. Fucking Stupendous! Take that you greedy miserable PC soul stealing corporate bastards. Stardock has been around longer than you think, and longer than some of you have been alive. They are expanding in this wintry economic climate! HAH! I love you Karma.

Brad W. survived the Implosion of OS/2 and morphed his business into the weird 4x gaming/os customization/champion of the pc-consumer multi-classed beast we now have.

I'd catapult money at them by the great heaping gob-fulls if I could and if it meant getting more of what they are selling.

Steam is getting tested: Amazon.com has just opened its digital downloads and Brad W. is expanding his base in force. Gog.com is picking up Steam too, so to speak.

Why don't some of you clowns go work for Brad? Blue's readers are employable, right?

It's not dying, just electing to shrink itself to non competative levels due to trying to control the world's 2nd oldest profession. I have read a lot of unrest with Steam, I won't be paying to wear an ankle bracelet very much if at all. Electing to cut the love/hate drama out of my gaming line up is quite liberating. But you have to embrace consoles which isn't easy to do at first.

I am however ok with Stardock/Impulse and GPG and what they do. But everything changes, one day they may forget what made them fans, that's the day they lose them. Here is hoping that day never comes.

Good on them. Really happy to see they're doing well and continuing to be able to expand with the meltdown going on. These guys have earned every bit of their success.

Always good to see a developer expand amongst dreary economic conditions. Kudos Stardock!

Congrats, Stardock.

Thankfully some studios are still interested in creating and publishing games made for PC gamers.
