who can actually AFFORD the houses they're looking at

That's precisely what caused the housing bubble

No, the housing bubble was caused by people buying houses they really couldn't afford which is my point. Consumer ignorance is just as much to blame for the housing crisis as the mortgage lenders.

Read my comment again. Get it? No? Here let me highlight the connected text...

Get it? No? "the housing bubble was caused by people buying houses they really couldn't afford" aka "they're looking at".

Just turn on your T.V., pick up a newspaper, or read a gaming website

All of which are terrible venues for having actual discussions, which is why I asked the question. It's great that you're actually having those conversations. It just doesn't show from your postings.

As far as your last comment, you completely proved Mr. Mason correct. Did you even listen to what he said?

No, I didn't listen. I lost the stomach to listen to him long ago. Saying "it's just a joke" doesn't wash with me, nor does being a Jew make his tirades against other Jews okay. My views on him were formed years ago, well before I'd even heard of Obama. Here are some choice quotes from Mr. Mason:

"There is a sick Jewish problem of voting for a black man no matter how unfit he is for the job. All you have to do is to be black and don't curse the Jews directly and the Jew will vote for a black in a second. Jews are sick with complexes."

"I'm saying, the black person is not even giving the white person a chance or a hearing."

"Israelis are constantly asked the same obnoxious question: 'How can you throw the Arabs out? where would they go?' The answer is, if they don't care whom they kill, why are we obligated to care where they go?"

Talking about Islam: "" ... I don't know how we can call it a religion in the traditional sense. It should be called a murderous organization that's out to kill people."

I think it's fairly telling that one of the biggest socialist countries in the world (the Netherlands) has DROPPED universal healthcare - at least to the extent that it's sponsored by the government - because it hasn't really worked very well, and yet all we can do here is scream how we need universal healthcare.

You are wrong, they require that 100% of the population is covered, that is universal healthcare and insurance companys are not allowed to deny coverage. Now they are on a health for profit system, but it is still universal healthcare, this is probably the system you will end up with, still wrong IMO but better then what you have now. How in hell do you figure that universal healthcare means old people are left to die, lol thats as bad as saying universal healthcare equals communism just pure BS. You say your covered but just see how well your covered if you actually need it, then they will find some loophole negates the whole thing and your up shit creek and the only way to get what you paid for involves years in court.

Do you know any Democrats or liberals, and if so, have you actually seriously talked to them about the subject? Do the Obama supporters you know think Obama is perfect, or that he'll solve all of our problems? Or are you just taking your cues from pundits and old racist comedians?

The whole Christ thing is standard forum hyperbole. Us liberals actually have someone that we like as opposed to someone that we merely tolerate. So of course, we think he's the second coming.

If anything, we should hold him up to that standard. We should hold all of our elected officials to the highest standards. Monitor them closely, write to them, complain to them, etc. Now is not the time for getting on an internet forum and gloating or whining!

I know I haven't emailed my congress woman enough lately, but I'm changing that right now.

I also hope you guys get universal healthcare, health for profit is just ethically wrong.

Universal healthcare won't fix the ills of the "health for profit" business. In fact, it'll just magnify them. I've always thought it funny that Ted Kennedy was so adamant about universal healthcare when universal healthcare would let Ted Kennedy simply die.

I think it's fairly telling that one of the biggest socialist countries in the world (the Netherlands) has DROPPED universal healthcare - at least to the extent that it's sponsored by the government - because it hasn't really worked very well, and yet all we can do here is scream how we need universal healthcare.

I think the US would be far better served with hospitals and healthcare available in every metropolitan area (so that everyone can reach it in a few hours) where you can get care for free if you cannot afford it.
The flipside of that would have to be that you cannot SUE those hospitals for 96 million dollars because they left a tiny little scar on your left hip when one of the stitches came out slightly askew.

But, we'll get universal healthcare, and it will be good for those who currently do not have healthcare, it will be pretty bad for those who currently do, and it will be absolutely worthless for the elderly, who are just going to be discarded as "not worth saving."

And we'll call it progress.

Creston

Yes, in fact I live in one of the most liberal areas in the country. My yard is the shining beacon of independence... =P And yes, I have several discussions with aforementioned democrats/liberals about their views because I wish to be more informed about all sides of an argument rather than just buy into the crap one side or the other is touting at that moment.

What I was referring to people hailing Obama as the second coming of Christ is pretty easy to understand. Just turn on your T.V., pick up a newspaper, or read a gaming website in which some of it's readers defend him tooth and nail because you have the audacity to disagree about their new messiah.

As far as your last comment, you completely proved Mr. Mason correct. Did you even listen to what he said? Or did you disagree with what he had to say because of who he is and go directly to the race card?

Hmmmm... Hello Pot... This is Kettle...

IMHO however, I do wish people would stop hailing him as if he's the second coming of Christ though...

Does the general population really think that? or are you just going by what the media says, IMO US newspeople stopped being reporters and became actors decades ago, ratings beat out facts and now its just a friken circus.

I really hope for you guys that Obama's attention is fully on the homefront, a lot of trash needs taken out. I also hope you guys get universal healthcare, health for profit is just ethically wrong. Hippocratic Oath LOL your medical community breaks practically every single point in that statement.

I wish him the best of luck, and await the tax increases.

But wait in his campaign didn't he say that only people that made over two hundred thousand a year where going to get a tax increase?

HA HA HA HA suckers!

and why did justice roberts fuck up such a short line of the swearing in.
From what I read, Obama went blank and Roberts was essentially saying a few words to help him get his bearings (edit: it would appear this is wrong according to Tact).

I totally agree with the "second coming" thing (said the exact thing to a co-worker); the media is playing it off like it's the fucking Super Bowl with celebs and extensive coverage of all the parties that are going on. Hell, I'm surprised Doritos hasn't released and official snack of the '09 inauguration.

Anyway, I hope he's got good economists behind him to help fix the economic issues. Better yet, I hope they'll give incentives to home buyers (been looking for a new house for 2+ years) who can actually AFFORD the houses they're looking at. I wish him the best of luck, and await the tax increases.

38. Re: Out of the Blue Jan 20, 2009, 15:52 Mr. Tact

Yeah, Roberts messed up. He said,

"I do solemnly swear that I will execute the office of the President of the United States faithfully, and will to the best of my ability,
preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."

Instead of what he should have said which is:

"I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the office of the
President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability,
preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."

And Barrack just kinda looked at him like, "Wanna try again, Punk?" -- Roberts then corrected himself.

Truth is brutal. Prepare for pain.

I'm not sure who messed it up, but it looked awkward...

I think Roberts said it wrong, and the phrasing confused Obama.
