Bhruic & Beamer read the article, hell read the title. It states very clearly that the list is on games that a player "shouldn't have missed". I did read the article, and the title. Hence my disagreeing with Beamer's comment. Reading comprehension - look into it.
I also don't think the title is accurate, but that's a different issue. If it was a list of 21 first person shooters that were popular, then ok. But there are plenty on the list that serious FPS players would be wise to miss. |

But look at the ones they chose and the examples for them. Uhh I did...and I posted a list of what I thought needed to change. Otherwise I think the list is fine. |

We have come up with a list of 21 first person shooters that any serious FPS player shouldn’t have missed. Bhruic & Beamer read the article, hell read the title. It states very clearly that the list is on games that a player "shouldn't have missed". Not whether they moved the genre forward or was innovative in any way.
So if the sequel was better than the original...then the sequel should be noted instead.
System Shock should be System Shock 2. Unreal Tournament should be Unreal. NOLF should be NOLF 2. Serious Sam should be Painkiller. Halo should be Outlaws. Undying should be STALKER. Battlefield 2 should be Battlefield 1942. Crysis should be Dues Ex.

I think people are missing that they mostly went with titles that furthered the genre in some way. Really? To me the list seemed mostly packed with games that were very popular, but not necessarily any good. There were plenty on the list that I don't think furthered the genre at all. They just happened to sell well. |

RTCW blew. It furthered nothing. RotT was fun at the time, but it's forgotten for a reason. Outlaws was cool but the same. STALKER blew, too. Furthered nothing. SS2 was a sequel. Note that they largely left sequels out of this, unless the sequel did something the original didn't, in which case it's mentioned instead of the original. |

| I find it amazing that anyone publishes the 'results' from any 'study' conducted by or for the paying sponsor that does nothing but exclaim just how wonderful said sponsor or its organization happens to be. That there are then others willing to publicize these laughable 'conclusions' is even more ludicrous. It's like surveying a bunch of Al Gore disciples about their views on global warming are and then using the results as some sort of proof of anything. |

I think Serious Sam effectively represents the same type of gameplay in Painkiller. Yea, but Painkiller was better in every respect. Painkiller should be played over Serious Sam. |

Decent list, but they missed a few good ones...
Rise of the Triad (Since they included old titles like Doom) Aliens vs. Predator Series RTCW (Although a lot of people bitched about SP, I enjoyed it)
Also, since they mentioned System Shock, FPS/RPG hybrids are fair game:
System Shock 2 Thief Series (Yeah, I'm a big Looking Glass fan) Deus Ex Vampire Masquerade: Bloodlines
