Homeworld 3 Hints?

Eurogamer has some quotes from Relic about Homeworld 3, as the site tries to get its hopes up that a new installment in the science-fiction RTS series is in the works. They quote Dawn of War II designer Jonny Ebbert saying, "yeah, we're definitely looking at it. We'll see what happens in the future," in discussing the IP, responding "There's always that chance," to a question about whether Homeworld 3 is currently in development, and saying "Yes, very, very," when asked if they are excited about showing it to the world. They also get some suspicious sounding non-comments from Company of Heroes: Tales of Valor designer Chris Degnan and a hint from general manager Tarrnie Williams that they have unannounced projects in the works. There it is in all its vagueness, so feel free to speculate wildly.

Dagok

I think you may have misinterpreted my post, and or my post was poorly written (no surprise)

When (not if) the consoles take over, there won't be games like Homeworld anymore is what I mean. They are too risky, probably won't urn a profit and require too many brain cells for the average console person to play.

I got to the very last mission in Homeworld with a massive fleet full of stolen and built ships, and I would get utterly demolished every time. I never did beat it.

I think it took me 2 or 3 attempts (wasn't expecting certain things in teh final battle), but I really didn't find it that difficult overall. And I always maxed out my build units at the end of every mission so I was going into the next cocked, locked and ready to rock.

Too bad with consoles poised to take over all game development, we will rarely, if ever, see risky games like this on consoles.

Mostly because people are too stupid to grasp games like this, and Tribes that play consoles. And that Xbox controller.....horrid.

Of 14 games released or in development, Relic has only done 1 console title. 3 announced games in development are PC exclusive. What makes you think Homeworld 3 would be for consoles?

I loved Homeworld 1 and 2, both for different reasons. But I never finished them, thanks to the godawfull scaling fleet size (enemy fleet size was dependant on the fleet you had when you started the next mission) and lack of difficulty slider.
It really pissed me off, as I could beat quite a few people online, but the single player missions just grew too much and I felt unfairly treated if I finished a particular mission very well.

Holy crap, is that what was going on?

But we are forgetting about the best part of the 3 games.

Cataclysm!

Really fun stuff. Too bad with consoles poised to take over all game development, we will rarely, if ever, see risky games like this on consoles.

Just don't rebuild lost ships until the beginning of next mission. Or, if the game is really giving you trouble, just scuttle ships and enter a new mission with a minimal fleet. You should give those games another shot cuz the campaigns were worth finishing.

In homeworld 2 you end up getting this retardedly powerful battleship that was essentially a flying death star beam. It was a blast seeing that monstrosity melt through enemy cruisers. Homeworld 2 was freakin beautiful.

The BEST RTS ever made in my opinion. The art direction, voice acting, was just light years beyond anything done today.

While Sins is a good game, without Homeworld, Sins would never have existed.

Homeworld 2 still looks better art wise than Sins and the full 3D movement trumps Sins in tactical approaches.

The Battlecruiser, have you ever seen a better ship design?

Fuggin awesome.

So please, Relic: chuck in a meaningfull difficulty slider. I payed for the game and for single player I should be able to play how I want....this ain't Contra, fer christ sakes!

I woudl love a Sins of a Solar Empire style revamp of the game, make it mroe of a war than a battle, with varying terrain and territory.

Personally I don't give a flying fuck about the single player campaign, but I know that won't be a widely shared feeling.

I think Sins's success may have been what made Relic realize that Homeworld is still a valuable property. The spaceships in Homeworld always looked better however, just better design and art direction even when the graphics technology was lower.

Loved Homeworld 1 as well, Homeworld 2 I didn't like as much for various reasons. But the main thing being that generally the missions ended without much notice, so if your fleet was hurting, then you went into the next mission hurting, often without much chance to rebuild and regroup. At least they made it auto-collect the resources that were still available.

Homeworld 1 you could take as much time as you liked to collect resources, rebuild and prepare before jumping into the next mission. Granted, having to collect the resources was a pain and took some time. But they could have auto collected resources once a mission was completed, and then let the player get situated and jump when ready.

Hopefully they find a happy medium here.

Also keeping in mind that many of the designers from Homeworld are no longer at Relic.
