New Evochron Renegades

The Evochron Renegades Website now offers a new version 1.958 of Evochron Renegades, StarWraith 3D Games' space trading and combat game. This improves memory efficiency and specular effects along with a couple of tweaks and bug fixes. As usual, the new version is a triple-threat: A full installer, a trial version/demo, and a patch for older versions. There is also a corresponding updated dedicated server.

Wow looks excellent. I'll be there on the day its finished to buy it. The new cities look exceptionally good.

I especially like the new radio chatter. I was, and still am--slowly, working on a mod for ER along those lines which I started something like six months ago with the intention of it being finished in about a month. Turns out it isn't that easy. I just can't come up enough lines. (I'm Mechanical on the ER forums by the way, haven't been around too much lately though because of school, work and whatnot).

Of course, the diversion into superficial-but-pretty action gameland took a chunk of time too.

I like the X games. They're great, but it is totally different. I love that ER is more about you, your ship, and the galaxy. X has a huge scale in terms of business and fleets, and it's excellent for that, but I never really felt like I was exploring alone in the void--everything is pretty much just there between the gates in what basically feel like "rooms" populated with objects.

Naturally, I play them both, but for their individual strengths and styles.

Hi Aero,

Man, they just keep banging away with the patches. Very nice. Haven't tried it yet though. I haven't gotten around to re-installing it since my latest upgrade because I needed to play all of the pretty games I was missing out on. I'll probably come back to games like ER pretty soon, and then I'll wonder why I spent so much money for the upgrade.

I have listened closely to similar feedback since ER was released and I have spent about the last year re-writing/re-creating much of the game's code/content to target improvements with detail and graphics along with gameplay. I've worked to raise the level of detail to much higher levels, which has also raised the minimum system configuration baseline substantially. So hopefully, the sequel will help justify the upgrade you've done from this game's standpoint. It's in beta now and the testers seem to agree that it is much 'prettier'. Here is a quick summary page on the new game (more than just this is being done, but this gives you an idea of the direction the new game is going and it has some early screenshots): http://starwraith3dgames.home.att.net/evochronlegends/index.htm

Sorry ER misses the mark for you Surf. If you want to send me your thoughts/comments, I'd be happy to review them to see if I can work on areas you feel need improvement, although this game is certainly not designed to be like X. If the X series offers the gameplay you like only, then it's probably best to just stick with it alone... I enjoy both approaches though along with many other space-sims, you could say I like just about all kinds Haven't purchased Terran Conflict yet, but I plan to. You can send me an e-mail with your thoughts via this link: http://starwraith3dgames.home.att.net/contact.htm

Yes, ER and the new game both have multiplayer, the new game offers additional gameplay options/features (escort missions, multiple waypoint patrols, in-game rank tracking/displaying, support for more players per server, etc).

Not that good at all. X is a far better game but at least they are trying.

I think this may have multiplayer though?
