I hate the way the environment feels so enclosed. Everywhere you turn, you're blocked by a mountain of rubble. You have to take the goddamn subway tunnels to get anywhere. Feels like I'm on rails like Half-Life 2, but with less interesting interactions. While there are open areas, a lot of it feels very closed-off. I much prefer the open feel of Oblivion to this.
The quests are blurring together for the most part. Go there and kill some stuff and bring something back. Then do the same over here and over there and in that other place. There's the Blade-Runner-esque mission, but as far as I can tell, they took something that could have been cool and just did practically nothing with it. I'm going to go back try some other options, but it looks like a missed opportunity.
The level scaling is pretty apparent to me. I was taking on super mutants pretty much right out of the vault without too much trouble, and they've stayed at roughly the same difficulty the whole time (I think I'm at level 12 or so now). The combat AI is rather retarded most of the time. I haven't seen anyone do anything that seemed remotely intelligent or even unexpected yet. Contrast this with FEAR or Half-Life 2 even and it's a letdown. Everything basically charges to optimal range for their weapon. They don't seem to make use of cover and even frag nade use is spotty.
The fire ants were a bit of a challenge at first, but like everything else so far, their retarded AI is easy to defeat once you see how they fight. I can only hope that Bethesda will release mod tools for this game. Much like Oblivion, it has a lot of potential, but it will take a year or two of modding to really let it shine. They need to get those tools out soon.
