EA Job Cuts

This story details the financial reporting at Electronic Arts, as second quarter losses at the gaming giant widened to $310 million. This has had a negative impact on their stock price, their forecast for the year, and will take a toll on their workforce, as word is: "The company will eliminate 6 percent of its workers to save $50 million a year, Redwood City, California-based Electronic Arts said today in a statement." On a semi-related note, Riccitiello: EA Thinks Long-Term With $150 Million For Digital Distro, Online, EAP on Gamasutra has more detail on EA's earnings call relating their plans for the future.

Given I have had many friends either go through or stay with EA, I can honestly say I would never work for them.
They're a machine. Go in, and get milled.
Simple.

That pretty much sums up the corporate world in general - doesn't matter what biz it is....

I can't help but think that getting canned from EA is a blessing in disguise, in the long run...hopefully someone much better will pick them up.

Amen brother nin. I was thinking the same thing.

...but don't be surprised if we don't uphold them

Well what a suprise, thinking they can walk over the gamers and
make them pay more than once. Well what did they expect when they
shafted pc gamers with DRM, they lost huge as they pushed all the
people who would pay for a game into piraters..

They would of raked in millions of they didnt put on DRM on Spore
as it was highly anticipated, also lost with Farcry 2. Both of which
I cancelled my pre orders as DRM was introduced, sorry EA I must be
part of the 2% your missing...

The internal memo stated, "If you send e-mails via our computers and make claims that you do not like your job, someone in the office, or anything that is not positive, you will be terminated. If you are overheard complaining about your job while in the office, you will be terminated."

Its gonna take more than Spore, or the Sims to save EA's life now. I guess they are hoping Warhammer will take some of the strain. Well we will see. I hope they go down in Flames, too much talent is being drained working at EA.

No DRM equals job gains, but EA covers their ears and starts chanting "LALALAALLALALALA NOT LISTENING..." What a bunch of artards....

Typo: I'm sucking at typing tonight...

No wonder they don't put the necessary resources into post release patching.

They don't do that in the good times either. This just gives them a marginal excuse.

Holy shit they could save that much by not giving corporate executive bonuses and stop wasting money on DRM.

Keep on Sucking?

The people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country.
