The Elder Scrolls V in 2010?

Bethesda pencils in new Elder Scrolls title for 2010 on GamesIndustry.biz has a quote from Paul Oughton of Bethesda Softworks, who answers a question about Wii development by volunteering information about the next installment The Elder Scrolls RPG series, saying it will potentially released in 2010: "At the moment we've got Fallout 3 for this year and potentially there's a new Elder Scrolls title in 2010. At the moment we're not that interested in the Wii. We're going to stick to PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. We'll continue to pursue three or four titles a year and go for big titles."

Oblivion was half baked, that for sure. And I can't help going into it at least a little bit.

To be fair to Oblivion, it took me about 100 hours of play to get really mad at the shortcuts Bethesda took in terms of it's game design.

But it took me about 1000 hours to get bored with Morrowind, in my opinion the far better designed game in terms of balance. Everything was more "hand crafted", even the mindless bandits that would attack you had their own names. The guys that made Morrowind just seemed to care more about the game and who ever was playing it. Morrowind had history. Oblivion was just random, which worked for Diablo, but Oblivion failed to reward you for your work, which is what the game became. Out of the box at least.

Oblivion failed to appreciate that an items value is determined by it's scarcity, and had every NPC leveling up with the same equipment you had. It was a joke. Out of the box at least.

I think this was one of the earliest issues that modders tried to fix, a truly monumental task. To make it more like Morrowind.

Oblivion isn't a bad game. But it sucks as a Morrowind sequel.

Out of the box at least.

If you say 'out of the box' one more time I'm going to smack you.
