Free Crysis Wars Next Weekend

EA and Crytek announce that they are offering the chance to play Crysis Wars for free next weekend, giving everyone a chance to sample the enhanced Crysis multiplayer play included with Crysis Warhead, Crytek's first-person shooter follow-up. Beginning Monday, those willing to register on MyCrysis can download a Crysis Wars client and get an activation key to allow online play from Friday, October 10th at through Sunday, October 12th. This sparked our curiosity over whether this was intended to promote Crysis Warhead or perhaps an indication that a standalone Crysis Wars release was being considered, so we asked EA about this, and were told: "There are no plans at this time to make Crysis Wars a separate, standalone product."

lol it's so easy to recognize the fools judging this without playing it. Wars is a huge step up from the original Crysis and is a hell of a lot of fun to play.

The game is only laggy when your internet connection sucks. You know, just like how every fucking other multiplayer game out there works. And there are hundreds of servers to choose from with more than 1500 people playing right now. Not huge numbers, but nothing to scoff at either.

wildone, yeah that's one reason I still love playing Quake1 netquake. Its the last FPS game I know of that doesn't use predictive net code. You never, ever, see someone else jerk from their own lag.

I still want to punch John Carmack for coming up with the idea of client-side prediction. I'm sure someone else would have done it, but still, he started the whole fiasco.

That said, some games have done it reasonably well. What is ironic is now that broadband is so widely available, predictive net code just isn't needed. So while in 1996 a fantastic online game that actually did need predictive code didn't have it, now games that don't need it, use it badly.

Yea I was but there was a lot of players who were lagging >200
so it was very uneven and bringing everyone else down

Crysis online had immense lag and was an utter failure. Crysis Wars has not improved on this and will also fail.

Great engine, great single player game, terrible online code and experience.

Crysis Wars doesn't contain any DRM, only Warhead does.

true. Connecting to a <40ms ping server helps. Still worth trying it for free to see if you like the many other elements to the game. Hopefully they'll fix the jerky vehicle movement in a patch. If enough of us request it, they should listen.

most of the games I played on had horrid lag. the guy who was flying around in the VTOL was virtually invulnerable from attack and was getting insanely high scores whilst he warps around the sky, it wasn't so much fun.
