Yeah, that was cool, funny how those things just stick in your mind. Yeah the original Unreal was definitely a great experience at the time. In that first tunnel with the lights flicking out then hearing the alien, hell yeah. I didn't even mind Unreal II, it was kinda ho-hum but the aspects of returning to your ship were neat and the gameplay was standard FPS fare.

I'll never forget Unreal's intro flyby. Yeah, that was cool, funny how those things just stick in your mind.
I think I might go and install Unreal again, and see if I can get it to run properly, and not at 100MPH.

Not that Gears 2 will be a better game necessarily, though that wouldn't really take much, would it? No, we agree that it was the best decision.
You see, PC gamers aren't that fond of buggy pieces of shit that randomly delete savegames.
Please form an alliance with peter molsnzneyyeyzzss called the "We Solemnly Promise Never To Bother You PC Gamers Again, Ever" Alliance. Then please stick to it.

I'm quite happy to play both PC and console games, I don't really make the distinction nor pick silly sides in some imaginary fight. It's pretty obvious that you can't make the distinction. As for the fight being imaginary, I really don't think that's the case at all. Let's look at the facts:
1) When a PC franchise becomes a console franchise, it gets dumbed down. Refer to Deus Ex, Ghost Recon, Rainbow Six, Thief, etc.
2) When a PC genre becomes a console genre, it gets dumbed down. Refer to regenerating health, aim assist, huge hitboxes, slow movement speed, unlimited/unified ammo, invincible NPCs, grenade proximity indicators, projectile trajectory indicators, dungeon radar, etc.
It's really not hard to understand why experienced PC gamers feel disdain towards consoles. Seeing a PC genre or franchise get dumbed down is like seeing your favorite cereal become tasteless. Or your favorite magazine dwindled down to a few pages, most of which are ads. Or watching your favorite director start making lousy movies.
While you may be oblivious to all these things, that certainly doesn't make them "imaginary." Saying such things makes you look like a snob.
I'm quite happy to play both PC and console games, I don't really make the distinction nor pick silly sides in some imaginary fight. Amen to that. It really saddens me when I read an interview with a developer and see them say "Oh, well, we're all grown up now, we have families and stuff so we don't have time to play complex games or mess with our computers. We love just sitting down on the couch and playing a quick game of Halo." Seriously, what happened to the passion? What happened to developers being nerds and making games for people like them? I remember reading an interview with a Bioshock dev where he actually gave the advice "Remember, you aren't the target audience." That's the whole problem right there. Games were simply better when developers and gamers were one and the same. None of this focus testing, design-by-demographic crap.

No one is disputing that high end PC's are more powerful than consoles but thats no longer the design paradigm these days, few games are targeting high end PC's.
It think that's because the PC games that do target the high end end up not selling well for one reason or another, and not necessarily because they are more complex. Why put forth the extra effort if there's no added benefit to doing so?
Even recognizing that, I still wish games like Deus Ex, Starcraft, and Neverwinter Nights were more the rule than the exception. I long for the days when games targeted not just the high end rig, but the high end gamer as well. Mechwarrior, X-COM, Daggerfall, Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe, Tie Fighter, Ultima, etc etc.

A full year later. The game was always designed for 360 then ported to Windows a year later. Mark Rein is a liar. Not to mention, that Epic has bought "People Can Fly", the dev behind Painkiler. And THEY did the porting of GoW to the PC.

Still, it does suck for the pc gamers that enjoyed the original. Exactly. I was very unlikely to get it but I don't like to see games not being released on PC where the original was. |

I really hated the first game, it was such a pain in the ass to get through. I didnt think it was possible to make a more boring shooter then halo, but they pulled it off. Still, it does suck for the pc gamers that enjoyed the original.

No, no. Not 'Lowest Common Denominator' games. Consoles by virtue of having inferior hardware to PC's are the LCD. You can make the argument that many PC's don't have the muscle to match some consoles, but only a tiny number of PC titles are made for them.
No, the players involved is where the Lowest Common Denominator is. The PC games of yore were written for a different crowd because the PC owners of yore WERE a different crowd. The console crowd of today is nothing like that....and since devs moved to consoles to chase the bigger bucks, they have dumbed down their products to appeal to the widest sample possible of that crowd. |

You can make the argument that many PC's don't have the muscle to match some consoles, but only a tiny number of PC titles are made for them. Can't really say I agree with that. Devs are designing from down to up instead of the other way around now. I can think only 10 high end titles off the top of my head released in the past year whereas I can walk into any store and see mountains of games designed to operate at the middle to low range, somewhere that a console does just fine. No one is disputing that high end PC's are more powerful than consoles but thats no longer the design paradigm these days, few games are targeting high end PC's.
You certainly like to infer a lot based on very little. I personally understand why developers would rather make easy games. If they sell better than the complex ones, and take less time, then they are the logical choice. The fact that some gamers prefer the complicated and "confusing" games does not make them snobbish. Well no but people around here posting "fuck off to console land and die!" does make them snobs. That's what I was referring to.
You can play console games; if you enjoy them, more power to you. I generally don't. I did enjoy Bioshock, Oblivion, and GTA on PC, but while playing them I could never shake the feeling that they would have been so much better had they been designed for PC instead of consoles. I'm quite happy to play both PC and console games, I don't really make the distinction nor pick silly sides in some imaginary fight. If people want to then fair enough but I get tired of seeing the same thing reposted 5 times a day "FUK CONSOLES ARE KILLING OUR PC FUCKIN GREEDY DEVS FUCK U EPIC/CRYTEK/BETHESDA/pretty much everyone". So sometimes I let go and respond to it
I'm not sure why you continue to get defensive with me; I have never belittled anyone for their gaming choices. I just know what I like. On the contrary, I don't feel defensive at all. I was just responding to your post and trying to give my point of view. I respect your opinion as you're usually pretty level headed, I wasn't trying to unfairly target you with my post, just more meant in general to people around here
