Steam to Host Mods

This week's Steam Marketing message has word that beginning this week, Steam will begin offering modifications, or MODs as they put it. Word is: "The first five MODs to ship on steam will be Age of Chivalry, D.I.P.R.I.P., Insurgency, Synergy, and Zombie Panic. As always, owners of any Source game will be able to download and play all of these MODs for free." Mods hosted on Steam will also use Steamworks for stat tracking and other community integration.

Well most mods have already excluded themselves from being on Steam simply due to their use of copywritten material. That means no hidden easter egg porno images, models, textures or themes from other games, etc. Steam already ~~hosts~~ advertises mods and have for years, they have 38 on there already. Click All Games, select the Mods bullet and click Search. I'm guessing the main difference here is that Valve will actually host the downloads of the mods, instead of just directing people to the website.
