Crusading attorney Jack Thompson will just be crusading citizen Jack Thompson in
a month, as the
Florida Supreme Court has ordered his permanent disbarment, to take effect after
30 days to allow him to close out his practice. Of course it doesn't end there,
as even though the ruling says "the Clerk of this Court is hereby instructed to
reject for filing any future pleadings, petitions, motions, documents, or other
filings submitted by John Bruce Thompson, unless signed by a member in good
standing of The Florida Bar other than himself," Thompson has already defied
that by filing his own emergency motion with the court. He sent this along to
Kotaku,
along with the claim that this action, which has been in the offing for months
( story), is a "rush to disbarment," as "This past Friday Thompson
filed a federal civil rights action against The Bar, the Supreme Court, and all
seven of its Justices. This is in retribution for the filing of that federal
suit. With enemies this foolish, Thompson needs only the loyal friends he has."
Somewhat ironically, it is this sort of vitriol that got him into this trouble
in the first place, as outlined in this portion of the disbarment: "Over a very
extended period of time involving a number of totally unrelated cases and
individuals, [r]espondent has demonstrated a pattern of conduct to strike out
harshly, extensively, repeatedly and willfully to simply try to bring as much
difficulty, distraction and anguish to those he considers in opposition to his
causes. He does not proceed within the guidelines of appropriate professional
behavior, but rather uses other means available to intimidate, harass, or bring
public disrepute to those whom he perceives oppose him."
Thompson first gained notoriety for waging a public battle against rap music
and the group 2 Live Crew before turning his attention to attacking violent
games (and some would say the First Amendment of the US Constitution),
attempting to draw connections over the past several years between a number of school shootings and the
influence of video games.

The media continued to contact him for "expert" opinions about game violence even after the disbarment proceeding started. The media made this idiot famous.

He's busy playing Spore I sincerely think he has better taste than that. If anything he's playing a never ending game of Civ with Satan.

"This isn't over! You've NOT heard the last of me!" - Super-Villian Thompson Jack Thompson to be Disbarred, part deux http://kotaku.com/5054801/thompson-responds-to-disbarment
he plugs a book
Thompson sent Kotaku a copy of an emergency motion he filed with the court, this despite the ruling which states that only another attorney in good standing with the Florida Bar could file a motion for rehearing on Thompson's behalf. He's coo-coo!
Jack Thompson is like a zombie. He just won't die! Florida is going to need to swing the Bar near Jack's head. It's the only way to kill it! Actually in retrospect I think it's time to use V.A.T.S - Videogamers Against Thompsons Shenanigans
