Out of the Blue

Well yesterday was interesting. Two guys spent most of the afternoon destroying the walkway in front of our door with jackhammers. It's pretty safe to say I have never spent nearly this much time nearly this close to such an activity. You may not be surprised to hear that after a while it gets pretty m-m-maddening. What's wild is that they haven't yet cleared away any of the rubble, so it looks a little like a bomb exploded in front of our door.

Have Showtime? Dexter is Sunday!

The cause of all these evils was the lust for power arising from greed and ambition; and from these passions proceeded the violence of parties once engaged in contention.

My poor DVR was going nuts trying to record all the shows that started last night

Same here. Between the Heroes clip show and the season opener, and Terminator and CSI Miami, and trying to finish watching MNF, it got a workout ...

Let's hope they raise your walkway as well.

I guess I didn't make it clear, but that was the point of redoing the walk.

On another note: Is it government workers or contractors?

Contractors, and yes, they work pretty fast. And yes we are worried about our basement being even wetter as a result of all this, as nothing has particularly changed in that area yet.

My city always took it upon themselves to hire high school students during the summer for road work. Oh yeah, they were productive.

It's part of the sidewalk project -- the new sidewalks are about three inches higher than the old ones, so now they need to create a slope leading back to our porch, rather than a cliff...

That ought to make a nice swimming pool when it rains
Let's hope they raise your walkway as well.

On another note: Is it government workers or contractors? In my neck of the woods (the west coast) we had a crew of contractors replacing a bunch of curb sections earlier this year. It took them 2 days. A month ago, some city workers started work on replacing the curbs around an alley outlet, 5 separate working days, and it's still -- not -- done. I have nothing against govt workers, but that's just silly.

Speaking of concrete, what if anything ever happened with your basement drainage issue, Blue?

Like The Russian on The Sopranos, Blue likes to leave a few things up in the air.

Right there with you Elf. I think there's a benefit to having uverse since it supposedly can record four shows at once, but i think i was testing its boundaries last night. Great starter to the season, btw.

Heh. We had the apartment steps redone with bluestone tops, all parking spots for all tenants properly leveled and paved (for those that were dirt spots), and we have an extended patio. All very nice.

Now, if only the interior of the apartment house/building could be worked on as easily...
