Out of the Blue

Yankees head for pastures new (thanks Mike Martinez). Tonight is the last game at The Stadium. I think this is the baseball equivalent of blasphemy, and I'm a Mets fan. I can't imagine how Yankees fans must feel; I imagine I'd be apoplectic.

But at least they did not move the team out of the Bronx.
People in the Bronx wish they had. The city and the team totally screwed the neighborhood. What a shock. And the fact that ANY public money ever gets used for this bullshit should be a crime causing any legislator voting for it to be sent to another publicly funded institution. The rich get richer at the expense of the poor once again.

Started watching Dead Like Me. Good stuff.

The cause of all these evils was the lust for power arising from greed and ambition; and from these passions proceeded the violence of parties once engaged in contention.

Why are they building a new stadium that holds less people?

More $ per person because they'll be adding more luxury box seats than the old stadium.

What are the plans for the older stadium?

Underground parking garage.

Just like when MPLS/StP decided it was time to retire Met Stadium and go with the "state of the art" HHH Metrodome. We'll see what happens when we get our new "Target Stadium" in a couple years...

Exactly, and this is another point I forgot to bring up, it's not like you're losing your team. Try to think what that would feel like, and if you can't, you can always ask me.

Btw, I don't hate the Yankees or their fans... at least the ones who realize how good they have it. And if you think I'm just bitter and jealous you're probably right!

When it goes, a little piece of me will go with it. My late father grew up in the shadow of the stadium and worked in a deli across the street while attending Fordham University. Highs and lows we have always been Yankee fans. I'm glad he's not here for this. But at least they did not move the team out of the Bronx. The Westside idea was stupid.

This was the first one to be called a baseball stadium. It was built to embarrass the New York Giants -- and it worked. If you knew all the history you'd know this was a meaningful event . . . whatever you may think of the team or its ownership.

Bah! Bah I say! While I realize the historic significance of Yankee Stadium, I don't even want to think about what would have to happen for me to feel sorry for Yankee fans. So now they're going to have to sit in their new 1.6 BILLION dollar stadium watching the best most expensive team money can buy? That's tough.

I do not keep up with sports much, or New York.

Why are they building a new stadium that holds less people?
Is the old one in pretty bad shape?

I also remember hearing, it is like literally right next door to the old stadium, so location is not really an issue?

What are the plans for the older stadium?

Granted I do not know much; but what I do know does not make much sense....
