Ships Ahoy - Tank Universal

Meridian 4 announces that Tank Universal is now available, as this independently-developed "Tron-like" armored combat game is on several sites like Steam and Direct2Drive for online purchase and download for $9.99 USD. The game features 20 levels "of highly addictive and intense tank battles," though "some missions require you to leave the safety of your tank and explore the world on foot." The Tank Universal homepage offers more details as well as a playable demo (story).

I picked this up based on the pre-order offer of getting Shadowgrounds as well

Same here. I thought of it as buy Shadowgrounds, which I was going to do anyways and get Tank Universal for free.

I previously bought the sequel Shadowgrounds Survivor -- which rocks -- so $10 for the first one AND Tank Universal was a no-brainer for me.

I've only played the Tank Universal demo so far, and it was quite neat, without showing any signs of brilliance, but I was willing to risk $5 on finding out if the full game delivered the goods.

My review:

But it's from a while ago so I am not sure what has been improved in the past year.

I bought it and just played a few minutes. So far I like it. It's true to the Tron look and feel, and plays like a much cooler Battlezone from the old days. It's not amazing, but it's a fun diversion and easily worth the $10 asking price.

Gotta remember to check out the demo. It's been advertised on Steam for a week or two now and I've been meaning to take a look.

The demo isn't bad. Kind of like Tron crossed with Tread Marks.
