Wrath of The Lich King Graphics & Benchmarks

PCGH takes a look at new graphics the Wrath of the Lich King expansion is bringing to World of Warcraft, using console options for things like Level of Detail and the concentration of foliage to see the impact of the increased density of foliage in the add-on. They have screenshots demonstrating the visuals and benchmarks showing the impact cranking up such options has on framerates. Update: Edited for accuracy.

The console commands are at least two months old, of not more so.

I tried shadows this morning and I think its cool. The biggest bug I've seen is that casting shadows occur from the sun. If you're inside a building standing next to a light source the shadow never changes. Needless to say they're way, way off from being ready for live.

Someone should tell them that running 4GB on a 32-bit OS is not the best course of action.

I'd hate to see the numbers redone in a 20 man raid if those represent solely the flora/fauna or Howling Fjord. Ouch.

With regards to "manic half," there are various detail configuration options in WoW, but they are very minimal. The console commands give you more adjustable control over the specific settings as well as surpassing the allowable maximum in the configuration area.

there is a level of detail setting in the current version of WoW.

I think there is a way to exceed it with a console command in the current game too.

The shadows are new though.
