DOOM 4 Not Titled DOOM 4

Big Download reports from QuakeCon that they've learned from id Software's Tim Willits that DOOM 4 will not carry that title. The explanation is that the next DOOM game will not be a continuation of the story in DOOM 3, though they are not giving out any details about the setting or story at this time. Of course DOOM 3 wasn't a continuation of the events of DOOM II either, but that's their story.

I love reading about id recently... the stuff they put out is verging on lunacy...

Here here. I mean, I get Tech 5. That's nice, that's cool. w00t! And all that.

Not naming Doom 4, respectively, Doom 4: Hell's Back or some such doesn't sit right.
Doom, Doom 2: Hell on Earth, Doom 3, Doom... Hell Returns?

I mean, GTA can get away with it because they changed cities altogether, but when they came back to Liberty, it was always another GTA #.
This is a contrivance I'm sure. Some sort of marketing ploy. Renaming Doom to anything but Doom and still say it's Doom, I'm not sure where the logic has gone.
It's Doom.. but we're not calling it that.
It's a Rose.. but it's an Orange.
I'm Carmack.. but I'm an alien decoy. The real Carmack is coding the motherships new O/S.
