Out of the Blue

Just in time for all these E3 movies, my cable bandwidth was quietly upped, and I am now getting staggering 31 Mb/s downloads, close to 4 MB a second. This makes it more apparent than ever that in this brave new internet world, my old 1.5 Mb/s connection probably doesn't even qualify as broadband, as it was not really capable of downloading a lot of these clips, much less streaming them. Back in the day we had a joke about "Low Ping Bastards," but I think that's much too kind a description of the connection I'm currently enjoying.

Ugh.

I'm feeling incredibly old these days. But I'm not forty so you're negating my ability to whine.

Damn you!
Maybe we should call you Blue2?
Having sworn I was just eighteen :(,

I get very impressed when I see something detailed made out of (relatively) ordinary legos. I don't care if edges are jagged or it looks like a bitmap for 1980, it took care and planning.

Ever been to the Toys R Us in Times Square? All sorts of real neat Lego stuff, including make your own set-- basically like those things of candies that you scoop into bags, but instead of candy it's all Lego pieces.

There's a lot of cool stuff on Brickshelf, though. Just click random, and you find neat stuff like this: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=951256

Happy belated level up day Cutter!
If I has known it was your birthday yesterday I would have found your cell phone number and called you to tell you how much I hate you!

In reference to "chic", wikipedia claims it comes from a French word.

This word is synonymous with "sheikh". I think perhaps the French word is actually derived from this word.

Using "sheikh" for stylish things is ridiculous. Sheikh is pronounced "shake", and literally means "elder" in Arabic, and is what you would refer to an Arab king as (IE: "Shake" Mohammed Bin Rashid, United Arab Emirates).

So when you refer to something as stylish, you may as well say "That (article of clothing) is so king!".

Well, I hit the big 40 yesterday. It's really pretty bizarre how time flies. I don't even know where the last decade went.

Was out for dinner and drinks with friends, good times had by all. went to Jacobs & Co. for dins. It's the new high end steak house in town. Shared a skirt steak and flat iron steak with my bud. Whilst the flat iron steak was really good, the skirt steak was probably the tastiest piece of meat I've ever eaten. 46 day old aged Waygu beef or some such thing. It was like buttah! I can't get over how good it was.

Had several interesting sides and apps, including a tenderloin carpaccio drizzled wih a garlic mustard and reggiano shavings that was insanely good. And all this was accompianed by some fine wine, including a 2000 Chateaux Margaux that was pure velvet. Mmm, good times.

It amazes me how Legos are looking less and less like Legos these days. Whatever happened to the bricks with the bumps on them that you stuck together to build stuff?

I was a little disappointed with it. You can see where some of the lego parts come into play but too much of it seems tailor-made for a stand + gattling gun.

I get very impressed when I see something detailed made out of (relatively) ordinary legos. I don't care if edges are jagged or it looks like a bitmap for 1980, it took care and planning.

But upon zooming in that pic looks like only 2/3 of it is actual leggos.

anyone ever heard of Pandora Radio? a buddy of mine sent me the link - www.pandora.com and i gotta say that it's pretty frickin cool. i haven't seen any limitations (other than it can't be played on my phone yet), but it's really nifty.

I take it you don't have an iPhone. I saw a report saying that it was one of the most popular apps for it.

OK after seeing the "Heart of Darkness" trailer ( http://www.gametrailers.com/player/36503.html ) and now this gameplay vid, http://www.gametrailers.com/player/36700.html

...I'm sold!

All that could stop me from getting this at release (and on Steam) will be really bad reviews, which I kinda doubt.

Also: WTF Andy Dick looks like a rapist in that photo!

Not a rapist, just a child molester, depending on the state's age laws.

Was he ever funny in anything accept News Radio? Anything I've seen him in since has been Jackass level humor

15. You think that's bad? Jul 17, 2008, 13:05 >U

my old 1.5 Mb/s connection probably doesn't even qualify as broadband
That rate is still the downstream on the second tier (of a mere four) of AT&T's ADSL service. The first tier is only 768Kbits/sec. Worse still due to PPPoE and other overhead, that 1.5Mbits/sec translates into an actual download limit of only ~152Kbytes/sec.

Heh, if you think 1.5mbit is bad, the FCC's definition of broadband is 768kbit.

We called 'em High Ping Whiners. 30K/sec was screaming fast. "Pings under a hundred?. No freakin' way!"

Remember when someone forgot the "/" at the console when they typed "ping", and there would be a race to type "titleist"?

Remember the spinning saw blade thingy when logging on to the TEN network to play Duke?

Back when TF2 didn't have transparent water? *sniff*, I miss you guys.....

I used a 56k modem up untill 2002 because I lived in a remote area on a mountain. I had a steady 200-250 ping where ever i played. I got good with it, and calling people lpb's was alway a good excuse for getting beat. Some times latency was to blame, and other times not.
My lpb status was a long time coming but was it ever nice to finally get it.

Looks more like the next Joker for the Batman movie!

Haha that's what I was gonna post. Soon as I saw his pic, it reminded me of The Killing Joke.

I spent my Q2 time on an ISDN. That's right, I was an LPB. I was a God amongst men.

I would stay late at work (we are talking midnight late or more) to play on ISDN and sometimes on a client site even higher bandwidth. Goodtimes.

You got a great body, but your record collection sucks....
