I'm not above feeling pangs when famous people I'm fond of die, but it's not something that usually bothers me too much. But I'm especially saddened by the passing of George Carlin, as the comic had been one of my heroes for almost as long as I can remember. In memoriam, here's a collection of a few of his bits (link updated, thanks BicycleRepairMan).

I maxed it out as well......but I can also beat the record on my NES for Track and Field without using a turbo controller.....so yeah.......sad.

I find that labeling George Carlin as a comedian or a celebrity doesn't do him justice, it gives me hope to believe he achieved much more than making people laugh and giving them cheap entertainment.

I saw him last September, only major comedian I have paid concert prices to see. I was just thinking recently how he was close to my Mom's age and he dies just a day short of her birthday, personally, its a little wierd.

The classics nerd in me had to say this: In Memoriam does not mean "in memory", as blue used it in his post. Rather it means "into memory" (memoriam being in the accusative case and implying motion towards). The idea is that when the person was alive he existed, but now he exists only in our memory, and that some day we all will only exist in the memories of others. I've always found the phrase to be quite poignant and beautiful, much more so than a simple "In memory of". At any rate, thought some of you might be interested.
