What?! It's like half an hour at work! Heck, my cable television is 8 times as much money per month, and I know I'll be spending more hours playing AoC than I will watching TV.
Actually it is less than 1/3rd of an hour at work, but I have a hard time dedicating my time to one game, hell, I am not even done with GTA4. And being probably one of the biggest fannie boyz of the game, some find it strange I am playing other games (the lovely msgs I get in LIVE :)).
Like I said, I am going to reserve my opinion until I hit up the trial. Spendy game for a monthly fee.

I guess I hadn't even thought about the fees....but daaaaaaang that is alot to shell out monthly...depends on how the trial goes (get those damn keys!) then I will decide from there. If you go with the 6 month plan (which is short time for an MMO) it's $12.99 a month, or $ 0.43 a day, which is less then what I pay for a snack and a soda (which is around $2 for both) from the vending machines everyday at work.
So it's not really that bad, but after playing GW I can understand where your coming from.

Re: A lot of PvP strategy in this game. |

The amount of strategy when fighting other players is immense Yup. I just spent a good chunk of time tonight on White Sands Isle, with about 20% dedicated to PvP (mostly fending off attacks, not starting them). I already enjoy hunting rogues way too much; they put too much faith in the hide ability. Some modest spending in perception and a quick search will show 'em, then drop a snare and lace into the guy since most of his dps from the sneak attack just disappeared. Course, I'm also playing as a HoX, so I snare 'em then polymorph. They usually run at that point unless they're higher level.
Also a lot of fun putting together a quick PUG for protection near common quest areas. Some poor sap will wander in and try for a quick kill only to have 3 or 4 people all jump him. Good times....

A lot of PvP strategy in this game... |
May 22, 2008, 21:09 |
JohnBirshire |

The amount of strategy when fighting other players is immense, and somebody who knows what they are doing has a tremendous advantage over somebody who doesn't.
For example a Barbarian might have a powerful combo where he attacks left, then right, then forward, then right, then left again to finish the combo. So if you are fighting a Barbarian, you know there is a good chance he'll use that combo. So when you see him attack left, then right, you should by then know that putting your shields at full forward may completely block most of his next attack. Then you know the next attack will most likely be coming right, so you full shield right. Then if he is trying to finish his combo, you know the attack may be coming left, so you block full left. End result, you've blocked most of his combo's damage. Now on the other hand, vice versa, the Barbarian may realize you are blocking his combo moves, and therefore change combos in mid combo, attacking you on your weak side because he knows you are trying to block the previous combos next move...
This above example was just one example out of many aspects of this game's PvP. Not only are you required to know your class like the back of your hand, having extensive knowledge on other classes including their combo moves is of utmost importance as well. This game is going to be very fun and entertaining, that's for sure.
*this post was a response to someone saying this games melee combat was "more of the same", which is simply a ridiculous comment*

Well, went and picked it up, installing now. Guess I'll be playing in a couple hours from what I hear of the install time.
Do you end up having to download a patch immediately? Can I save any time by downloading it (assuming there is one) while the installation is going?

@g_mann
i dont usualy respond to trolls, but your post was long enough to make me think you realy think these things.
the install is 32gigs, not 25. but every year there is a game that is bigger than what people are currently used to. why would you ever need 16 megs of ram?
to pick on your weaker points, broadband... realy? thats a con? i think it says on the box that it req.'s it.
as for machine specs. i dont consider my machine top of the line, amd x2 6000, 2 gb or ram, gforce 9600. i get 50 fps. drops to 30 in some heavy action situations.
i dont engage in fanboi'ism, so you can think what you like, but ill paraphrase the poster below and say that if the blues news crowd speaks generaly well of this game, it probly has killer qualities.
