Adding DX10 support in your game engine for a few Vista early adopters makes no sense. Vista has been out for coming up to a year and a half, the same with DX10 graphics cards. Vista is the default OS shipped on new computers and has been since close to launch, despite a few hilarious headlines saying that OEMs were revolting. You also have to consider that this game is designed to last several years - the PS2 had a DVD drive long before most people even knew what a DVD was. I think it's fair to say that the move paid off.
24.8 GB??? Why, if it gets any bigger they'll need a SECOND Blu-Ray disk! Blu-ray discs hold 50GB, so no.
no way would I ever play a game that expected me to casually download 1.6 gig of patches and updates. Thats just sloppy work. It's a MMO, that's entirely to be expected - internet download is the primary method of distribution, with physical media only designed for the initial install. The WOW 2.4 patch is 0.9GB and that's for a dated game with very simplistic graphics. Broadband download speeds mean multi-gig downloads take little time and we're talking about significant improvements / content, which is surely a good thing?
NEway, I'd rather developers delay content than rush it, particularly as the game is perfectly playable in DX9 mode. Any delay is a bad thing but the developers of AoC seem to be taking things very seriously and this could be the first serious challenge to WOW.
