TF2 Update Next Week, No Portal 2 this Year

This week's Steam marketing message has word that Steam will be the exclusive online distributer of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky, that they are now selling an arcade-style shooter called Bullet Candy, and that the Team Fortress 2 update including the new Goldrush map and new medic achievements is expected next week. In other Valve-related news, Eurogamer has word not to expect Portal 2 this year, not that we knew of any such expectation. They have word from Doug Lombardi: "I think that when you hit something like that, you have two choices: you can quickly replicate it and stick it out there - do the opportunistic thing and cash in on it; or you can do the crazy thing like we did after Half-Life was so successful and go off and try and say, 'Okay, that was revolutionary, so its successor has to be equally as revolutionary.'"

There is a newer one that is very popular by a Russian team that has not *yet* been translated but afaik is in the process, I believe it's called AMK(?) or something, I remember seeing something on the official boards about 3 weeks ago. The other most popular Mod from Russia (?) is called ABC very freaking wild.

The cow map is def one of the best out of the new escort maps. I expect Goldrush to be much better balanced though - it seems like a lot of the community ES maps are easier to defend than attack.

A new release of the Oblivon Lost Mod version 2 was just released, in case any of you still have it installed. It has a huge list of changes like making it an open world game as the developers originally intended and this link includes the changes, just downloaded it.

Absolutely not. Team Fortress 2 was seriously delayed but WAY above expectations. Portal also took a long time and proved to be a hit. Having played Ep2 / Portal and seeing how they link together I have very high expectations of Portal 2 - I imagine it in the HL2 universe but with the Portal gun opening up new opportunities. Possibilty some new functionality. I really have no interest in a map pack (unless free).

A fun one involves a cow on railroad tracks. The cow map is def one of the best out of the new escort maps. I expect Goldrush to be much better balanced though - it seems like a lot of the community ES maps are easier to defend than attack.

When is episode 3 due out? Thought it was going to be a faster turn around than the E1 to E2 wait.

At this point i don't think anyone puts any stock in release date predictions from Valve. I think most people are content with the fact that they'll make sure its a well polished and fun game before its released.

Oh boy- Stalker is a Steam exclusive(online at least)? Expect idiot savant Riley/<U to make an appearance.

Are there user created portal maps out there? Plenty. Most of them are much more challenging than the original Portal maps too. This is why there's no need to pump out a "sequel" which is basically an expansion pack.

Good to see they aren't going to try and milk the success of Portal by pumping out a sequel with minor changes, unlike GoW2 or R6:V2.

I am a little disappointed with the Portal news. I was hoping for more soon. Maybe Valve will release a mappack in the interim?
