Vivendi/Activision Approved

EU approves Vivendi purchase of Activision (thanks Mike Martinez) has news that the Vivendi/Activision merger/purchase (story) has met with approval from The European Commission, who did not deem the deal a danger to fair competition. As the article states: "The merged company would still face stiff competition from rivals such as Electronic Arts and game console manufacturers such as Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft."

Unlike the USA that tries to dictate to the whole world just because they spend more on war than they do the rest of the planet combined?

let's just hope it delivers for gamers

And it'd be a first if it did.

The same thing has to happen in the US. Has nothing to do with the European Commission having a god complex.

Exactly. The difference is that in the EU, the process actually investigates the companies who want to merge and actually sees if it will be beneficial from a consumer and competition standpoint. It isn't just a rubber stamp like the US SEC/FTC.

Indeed. I read plenty of articles about the US allowing big mergers - with no criticism - but talk about the EU doing the same thing and it's a day out for the trolls. This whole EU bashing is getting pretty tiring, particularly when most of what they've been doing recently is aimed at protecting consumers. Microsoft wasn't fined because it was a US company but because it broke competition laws. Simple as.

Maybe do some research on WHY there has to be approvals on corporate mergers like this before posting stupid ass comments.

This move sounds like a good idea from a business sense - let's just hope it delivers for gamers.

I predict this won't make any difference whatsoever. Activision still won't make another Interstate or Mechwarrior and Blizzard won't stop milking Warcraft, Starcraft and Diablo.

Obviously when compared to EA there was never going to be a problem. This move sounds like a good idea from a business sense - let's just hope it delivers for gamers.
