Prez, in the early R6 games it could take you twenty minutes just to kit out your squad and set up their plan of attack. The actual fire-fight (or action) only took a couple minutes but it was ten times as much fun as the shite they put out today. 
Plus if you really look at the game length argument... well, just check out the latest releases on the 360. They are either extremely long and repetitive (mostly jRPGs) or under ten hours (most shooters). To be honest I don't buy many console games. Most are games I bought so my friend and I could play Co-Op... only to find the Co-Op mode sucked ass.
Besides I'm tired of their bullshit argument that that game style doesn't sell well. Even with the poor graphics the R6 games had a huge on-line community for that time period. My guess is they (Ubisoft) don't want to invest the time (money) to make a good looking sequel to the old R6 model. It would take more effort on their part and the balance would have to be right... none of this cone of fire shit.
Sad thing is with the games market growth and the huge amount of money even shite titles are raking in we may never see a large studio do another tactical shooter. Our only hope is a smaller studio that doesn't want to compete for shelf space against the never ending mediocre shooters being pumped out by the larger developers.
