bioshock is a great game, but it's nothing new
Why do so many people think that everything has to be something "new"?
I mean really, there is only so far you can go with the FPS genre to make it "new". Stylistically, is the biggest way to change a game, style sometimes brings subtle changes to mechanics, but it's never/rarely going to be drastic.
I also do not want to see large change to the FPS genre, in general. The most recent changes, in my opinion, have not been good ones. ie: the bridge of FPS and TPS to this slight over-the-shoulder cam that allows the player to see and shoot over objectives, but not be exposed.
So with all the ww2, modern warfare, space aliens and gangster themed FPS/TPS/Shoulder cam shooters out there with no depth and little variety at all...
...by comparison Bioshock is a huge breath of fresh air.
