Major Rock Band Update This Week

Rock Band Software Update Finalized on the Rock Band Forums has word on a patch for Rock Band that will add an in-game store where new songs can be previewed and purchased, while also addressing some vexing issues in both the Xbox 360 and PS3 editions of Harmonix' music/rhythm game. Changes that have been demanded by the community are included, such as revised fan caps to allow bands to travel farther at lower difficulty levels and achieve one million fans in "hard" mode, fixes for PS3 microphone latency issues, faster loading of downloaded content, and improved phoneme recognition for singing (which was previously broken at best). Word is the update as been "finalized," and this press release, focusing on the new in-game music store and the fact that the game has sold six million songs in three months, says to expect the patch this week.

I think I've posted 5 comments in my history here, but I've been coming to the site for all my pc news ever since Jeremy from the other place died of the big casino.

Before that it was here 50%, there 50%...

And really, I like it just like it is. If there's a great console game like GTA or RB, it gets a little more love than the average console stuff, but I get to find all of my pc info, a bit about ds (like the ds guitar hero thing) a bit about all of the consoles, and some random links.

It's perfect as it is, Blue. But, it is your site above all.

If those were his reasons, he would have done it already, rather than asking the user-base for feedback on the possibility.

I disagree. I think he is weighing his options of possible new members versus a possible S@#tstorm from the PC zealots and the "OMFG, he sold us out." and "What a greedy bastard!" comments that would show up all over the place.

Im glad we'll be able to preview the songs now. I was getting tired of looking up some of those titles on Itunes so could could recall what they were and sounded like.

The in-game store has been sorely needed. Really glad they did that

You what?

Band World Tour being playable online is "sorely needed".

The in-game store is a gimmick designed to draw attention to the DLC being added all the time, which in turn will (hopefully) increase sales.

Hell, the "more diverse songs in Band World Tour" fix is a more welcome update than the store.

I, for one, welcome our gamepad wielding overlords.

No, really, console news isn't going to kill anyone. It's nice to hear a little bit of what is going on everywhere in gaming.

Besides, Rock Band is one of the top titles on the platforms it is available on. Chances are good that many people visiting this site play it.

Personally, as long as the information is separated, I'm happy with that. What if the News title for consoles was a different color from Blue?

While we are talking about change...a better more modern message board would be nice

22. Re: Why post this here? Mar 20, 2008, 14:44 Ry

I have been a reader forever, but finally felt the need to join to give my opinion.

Always been a fan of the site, and have always been a PC gamer but have been console gaming much much more recently. (I blame the lack of innovation on PC games) Also, I do not 'browse the site' as I and everyone I know get our Blues information from RSS feeds on homepages. Since I have Slashdot and Evil Avatar as well I'm pretty well covered for all aspects of gaming in general. However, if I see a story that matters to me, be it console or PC, I will always read the story here as I feel it is actual 'news' instead of biases and 'feelings'. Afterwards I surf the comments.

Console gaming is growing in audience. I'd hate to not see good console news just to remain true to PC games. Especially when it involves such a popular and well received game. I welcome the change with open arms as it comes from actual seasoned gamers who already know what is good or not anyway. I wouldn't expect it to dwindle down to worthless press releases about updates to a shoddy 8 month old Xbox live arcade title that no one liked.

I have been coming here since the q2 days, even though I haven't posted much, I just read mainly. I do play more console games now but not exclusively. I do agree with the above poster about the console community in general is a bit more immature but yet at the same time I do like getting updates for console material as well.

As far as the drum sounds goes, I just bought some nice headphones to cover it up while I'm playing by myself, I have found it makes me play better this way too. Doesn't help much with a full band unless your receiever can output both headphones and speakers at the same time tho :\

PC news and bigger console news is fine by me. I don't think the elitism against console games is warranted at all. If it interests Blue, I would think it would interest most people as there's a reason people pick this site over others.

I wonder how bare the site would look if PC was the only thing on it. Beyond that, if it was only PC, I'd expect to see more info on mods.

Boy I feel old. I actually DO remember a time when it was just PC game news...hell...I remember when it was almost entirely Quake related. (for those looking at my '99 join year, I was reading here before then, just didn't have anything to say)

Take a gander at some of the early stuff here: http://bluesnews.com/archives/

Hi Blue,

I know that my post count isn't high but I've been coming here since this was a site dedicated to Quake, pre UGO.

I come here because this is the only site that gives me concise, consolidated news about PC gaming. I can go to literally thousands of sites to see posts about console games. I do understand that the console market has taken off and that there are some heretics...err...people that have abandoned the One True Faith...err..gone over to consoles that were once PC gamers exclusively.

I think the greatest thing that makes Blue's News what it is are the people in the community. I think by highlighting console games more, you're going to bring in more console players which, from my experience, tend to be annoying, immature, foul mouthed children who will pretty much treat this site like they do Xbox Live. The words "fuck" and "nigger" will soon become status quo, along with AOL speak, without heavy moderation.

Right now, I do not think you do a lot of heavy moderation because the current community doesn't require it. Sure, sometimes we get a bit rowdy but we're not like that all the time.

I see that people are saying "But I play consoles too" and that's great, all of my kidding aside. I own four 360s so I'm among them. However, I am not among "average" console players here and, truthfully, I don't want to be.

Sincerely,
The Advocate

ut I would have to request that PC news and console news be kept divided for easier determination of which platform the news is actually about.

While I will always welcome more console news, I agree with Pumas' comment there.

More is good, with an order of some sort.

Having said that, the occasional one off post (like this thread), isn't a huge deal...

But those are just my .02 and bottom line, it's you're web site, Blue.

When people play the drums, it sounds awful. Not within the game, but within reality. I was at Best Buy looking at PC Games and somebody nearby was playing the drums on Rock Band, I was about ready to smash the things to pieces two minutes later.

Yeah this is the most irritating thing about rock band. I put some rubber caps on my drums and use a pair of practice drumsticks that have rubber heads. It's not perfect but it cuts down on the harshness of the noise considerably. It may impact how well they work, but since I'll probably never be better than a medium drum player it doesn't matter for me.

Cool, now my "easy" wife can't hamstring my band when I am playing on the harder levels. I almost got a beat-down when I put a note on the fridge advertising for a replacement drummer.

As for the increased console news, even if this site could possibly make more money and grow exponentially by providing more console news, PC elite law says that Blue must stick to his "roots" and ignore any new opportunities for advancement.

Anything other than that and he is to be forever dubbed, "Greedy."

14. To PC or not to PC Mar 20, 2008, 12:44 Pumas

I'm kinda indifferent. I play both PC and consoles and enjoy them in their own right. But I would have to request that PC news and console news be kept divided for easier determination of which platform the news is actually about. Rockband's easy since it's a console game...but what about something Bioshock. If a Blue's News headline reads, "Bioshock Updated," how are we to know which platform was updated at a glance?

That's about it really.

That aside, I'm disappointed they don't have a screenshot feature yet for your band. If they had the multimedia features of Halo 3, it would be great.

"Blues News is a mainly PC oriented site that usually limits talking about console stuff under Consolidation sections. So why is Rock Band being given such royal treatment?"

Because when you get old, you don't want to kill things anymore. You get soft like a woman, so you only want to make beautiful music.

You young men have been warned. Better enjoy the killing games, before you turn into a woman and start singing.

9. Re: Why post this here? Mar 20, 2008, 12:01 JM

I come here because of its focus on PC games, and it doesn't bode well to see this trend take place.

Gamers are gamers. Many (if not most) here play both PC and console games. As consoles become more and more capable and PC-like, they are attracting former PC-only gamers like myself. I'd rather this site reflect broadening interests rather than narrow its focus to just one side. I say give both platforms equal coverage but maintain the distinction between the two within the site. If the top-level articles randomly alternate between PC and console it may be a bit distracting to readers who are only interested in one particular platform.

In any case, I do feel that the growing dominance in console gaming over PC gaming makes it deserving of increased coverage. Perhaps it is time to expand beyond the lone "Consolidation" section? What that should look like I cannot say.
