Gotta love the pirates "This is overpriced so I shall steal it!". Jesus, Monster cables are overpriced...so you know what I do? I DON'T BUY THEM! No. It's the difference in buying an actual car and the car concept. Once you have your master copy of said product, replicating a bazillion times is not the same thing. Or how else do you think guys like Gates, Ellison, etc. get to be billionaires without manufacturing anything?
The richest one percent of this country owns half our country's wealth, five trillion dollars. One third of that comes from hard work, two thirds comes from inheritance, interest on interest accumulating to widows and idiot sons and what I do, stock and real estate speculation. It's bullshit. You got ninety percent of the American public out there with little or no net worth. I create nothing. I own. We make the rules, pal. The news, war, peace, famine, upheaval, the price per paper clip. We pick that rabbit out of the hat while everybody sits out there wondering how the hell we did it. Now you're not naive enough to think we're living in a democracy, are you buddy? It's the free market. And you're a part of it. You've got that killer instinct. Stick around pal, I've still got a lot to teach you. - Gordon Gecko

They can keep all that stuff ...Orange box came out when? So people who owned HL2 & EP1 had to wait this long to buy the individually boxed games. I'll pass...But that is just me being stubborn. I feel dirty enough after supporting EA ( bought Crysis) & buying UT3 after what CliffyBS had to say.
On a side note Portal & TF2 are brilliant AAA titles! I'll give Valve props for that! This counterdicts my rant but hey that's life!

This has to be a mistake, I'm sure it is supposed to be the other way around. EP2 and TF2 are 29.99 and Portal is 19.99.
but retailers currently list Portal at $19.99 and the other two packages at $29.99 each. Expect more details soon. Yup, it's a Blue error.

Steam doesn't allow resale either, even if bought at retail, so auction sites are also out. Cheapskates like me are being priced out of the PC game market. PC games are not worth the New Release prices. There is so much crap to deal with in games now between serial codes, copy protections, bugs that crash the game, everything you get out of the box has been declining in value for PC games and I'm sick of paying the same high prices. Serial numbers were ok, something that you needed to enter when installing the game, but now many have to be registered to accounts that you use and in some cases you have to pay fees to link those to other accounts to resell them! Some games don't even work out of the box, you have to connect to a server to "activate" it, or download a patch on day ONE!
And most of this stuff is kept hidden and you don't learn about it until someone who's bought the game on day one cry's foul...
PC games on clearance is what I buy. Nothing new anymore, it's gotten too risky to drop dollars only to find they are screwing you out of most of that money.

Day of Defeat Source was released more than 2 years ago, and it's still selling at full retail price on Steam. Uhhm no it's not. It was $19.95 when it was first released and has been $9.95 for quite some time now.
Valve games get new reduced prices and/or go on sale all the time on Steam, as does everything else on Steam.

Agreed. Portal should be no more than 10 bucks. Same with EP2. TF2 is worth every penny for 20 bucks.

Steam pricing is just another nail in the PC gaming coffin. I have no need to play a game right after it's released, so I usually wait around 6 months to pick it up at discount. The problem I'm seeing now is that Valve will wait years before dropping the price, if it ever drops at all. Day of Defeat Source was released more than 2 years ago, and it's still selling at full retail price on Steam.

Portal was fun but it was short with extremely limited reply value. I played through Portal 2-3 times, plus directors commentary mode and I still love it...

Indications are the MSRP for Portal will be $29.99 and $19.99 will be the price for Team Fortress 2 or Half-Life 2: Episode Two. This is the reason people pirate your shit. Those prices are a complete joke. Portal is worth 9.99, Episode 2 is worth $10 on a good day, and TF2 is probably worth $15 AT BEST (and only because it's popular, otherwise it's worth $10). Charging $10 for each seems like a decent price but trying to @!#$ the consumer with these prices is EXACTLY WHY PEOPLE STEAL YOUR SHIT.

At least they're not asking $60 like for Call of Duty 4 and it's 5 hours of gameplay.
On the otherhand, CoD4 has a fairly indepth and extensive multiplayer game... yeah, I am ashamed to say how much time I have in the game!
Last night I started on the "Arcade Mode". Wow. That isn't easy.

MSRP the key word.
I think they are now doing this to indicate there will be addons for Portal down the line. Thus, get more money for it now.

Note that Portal is available right now through Steam for $20. I just bought it last night. I do like it, but it's frustrating because it kicks me back out to the menu every time I finish the 10th level (the last one from the demo). When I bought it, it seemed to install itself over the demo (since it started out at 90% complete), and I think it hasn't figured out yet that it's now the retail version.
So that's really $20 for essentially a free demo. Kinda stinks. Of course you've tried clicking 'Delete Local Content' and redownloaded the game, right?
