Yes, yes, making a purchase decision based on a game demo put out by developers that supposedly will showcase the best of the game is a sad thing to do
I think this is where I come in and tout of the many justifications for piracy...
Regardless, demos are not always good indicators of the full product. Take the Hitman: Blood Money demo, for example. It's the training mission from the full game and basically fails to represent Hitman's open-ended gameplay in any shape form. If one were to judge Blood Money based on the demo, they'd be missing out on the best game in the series.
At this point, System Shock 2 can be had for a mere pittance so you might as well just go out and buy it. While the graphics may be quite appalling (they weren't good by 1999 standards either), the game still has more depth and scares than most games out today.
Edit: Whoops, just kidding, you've already played System Shock 2. Well, Bioshock is certainly dumbed down but it's still a good game. I'd recommend downloading the full version to get a better taste than the demo and if you like it, buy it.
