in 4 easy steps :
1) Boot into DOS mode. 2) Format C: 3) Install Windows XP. 4) Enjoy the speed! Actually easier... just boot the XP CD, and when it asks which partition to install to... delete all the partitions, create new partition, format NTFS and continue to install.

| HD movie downloads are nowhere near the quality of the good blueray transfers. |

HD vs Standard |

The PS3 does an awesome job of upscaling standard DVD's. It's still nowhere near comparable to an actual Blu-Ray (or HD DVD) movie. If you take a PS3 and hook it up to a 32" tv and watch it from 8 feet away it's going to look like a huge waste of money compared to a dvd player with a dvd.
The content looks better, but it's like putting racing tires on a Prius, until you buy the new TV to use those HD Movies you're just wasting your money.
I think we've got a few years to go before Hd movies really have a large audience (when people have 1080p Tv's with 46+ screens) and in that time companies will offer HD solutions via digital downloads that don't require $400 players to watch. The HD formats seem to fill a void for the next 2 or 3 years when early adopters (for big TV's) don't have easy access to HD movie downloads but have the nice TV's and disposable income.

Have you not seen players that upscale?

The article is pretty transparent once you get to the 2nd page and he starts talking about the 360 and downloading movies from Live. There's plenty of ways you can rent the movies, and a large part of why places like Blockbuster probably weren't carrying them before is they don't want to spend the cash to stock titles in a format that's dead in a few months. Now that it's not an issue, well, that's not going to be an issue. Besides, Netflix has had them readily available for rent for a fairly low price for some time now.
This completely ignoring that downloaded videos aren't the same video quality as a Blu-Ray or HD-DVD disc, they're time sensitive, they require other hardware that you're still spending money for along with the bandwidth to download them, and the services to make it all feasible aren't even available to half of the country.

the cost thing still sucks..but the article lost me when it started claiming dvd could be near HD. Honestly if you have SEEN HD, you wouldn't be making such a claim. dvd is a blury mess compared to just 720p HD. Have you not seen players that upscale?
