Nice to know that no lawyers are going to get involved with this deal. Oh but lawyers were involved. How'd you think we got to do a deal in the first place?

GameTap left me to do my own thing and it was fun. I have no control over their business decisions and I certainly have no regrets in doing the deal.

Just looked at the manual and it looks like its not for me.
kudos for fitting the control scheme onto the 360 gamepad though. Oh and the cockpit view would make a kick-ass Battlemech cockpit.

so is this somewhere between Wing Commander and Dereks regular games in terms of complexity? Not even close. It is a completely different type of game, though set in my established game world and using some new and pre-existing (but improved) technologies.
But here, I've made the game's docs available to anyone who wants to take a look while aawaiting their chance to get their hands on the demo.
http://www.3000ad.com/downloads/gc/echo_squad_se_docs.zip
Draw your own conclusions and see if getting the demo is even worth your time.
And yes, notice from the keyboard template that the keys, tutorial and manual are all accessible from within the game.

The YouTube and GameTrailers don't do the trailer much justice due to the compression.
The best movie is either the HD MPEG4 (xvid) version or the SD DVD version.

Anyway, like I said. The demo is on the way and I suspect that since the IGN preview is not under any kind of NDA, most who actually get in on the 10K subscribers, will be posting their thoughts in the coming weeks.
All I know is that I did what I set out to do and once again nobody got to tell me how to do it. I wanted to create a fun new action franchise in an attempt to keep my beloved genre alive that much longer. My guess is that, apart from the four episodes in Echo Squad, along with the this-will-blow-your-mind feature set in Talon Elite/Bravo Team, I can probably get four of five games from the GALCOM series before I move on to something else.
GameTap left me to do my own thing and it was fun. I have no control over their business decisions and I certainly have no regrets in doing the deal.

EDIT:, I give derek kudos for not waiting for the usual idiotic timed release in order to placate B&M companies. If a game is done, release the fucking thing....end of story. Time to stop the lawyers and marketing suits from taking over everything like they've done in the music and movie industries.

Wing Commander 2 called from the retirement home, it wants its graphics and gameplay back. Surprisingly, some among us rate gameplay as slightly more important than this month's 'hottest graphics' award (not to take anything away from the posted movies). If you give the series a chance instead of just regurgitating uninformed bandwagon-taunts, you might start to feel that way too.
I for one don't want the games made more accessible. Minus some* minor wishes and issues needing fixes, UC is about right for me.
*Edit: well actually, I have a lot of wishes.

They say its a good game...
"It was a good game, it was very solid, but as we were going through, it ended up not being the right title for our audience," says Sanchez. "It was a tough call. I think it’s one of the strongest games [Derek] ever made. We put a lot of effort into it... I honestly think it's one of Derek’s strongest games." thats to bad.

| And thankfully, as you are releasing a demo, everyone can do exactly that. A great move. I wish every game developer would release demos of their products, rather than assuming hype will shift units. |

Hasn't (hadn't) Derek Smart been knocking on for quite some time about making a more accessible game (including as part of the interest in the Freespace license)? And now it's seemingly been knocked back as not accessible (versus X2, LOMAC or IL-2, which are listed in the simulation category) enough for Gametap? Yep. That was the whole point of the GALCOM franchise. But as we all know, publishers are what they are: publishers. And at the end of the day, its all about marketing.
I think those of you who are fans of the genre will be pleastantly surprised at the title. Which is why I'm not even hyping it. I'll let the game speak for itself.
