I'm very please with the money I spent on this game. Stardock are worth supporting.

Honestly, I grabbed the game off my favorite BitTorrent site, then sunk 6+ hours into a single (largely exploratory) 1v1 game, looked at the clock with surprise, and promptly went and bought it. (Btw, the scene will usually release cracked patches, but rarely near the initial release, and it's less likely for smaller games). Just slightly edges out World in Conflict and Company of Heroes, and I'd have to go back to Rise of Legends to top the fun factor (in short, 5/5, and if you hate clickspam RTSes, this will balm your wounds). I hate micromanagement (WC3 can lick my taint), love the actual strategy aspect of it, and SoaSE delivers in spades. I really get the feeling that I'm directing the course of an empire, not babysitting units who're theoretically trained and intelligent but seem unable to tie their shoes, much less tactically manage a space battle. The differing courses of tech development have already resulted in unique and interesting games, and I love that just about any focus or combination is viable if played decently well. I just realized that I'm wasting time typing when I could be feeding my new addiction (thanks IronClad!), so back to managing the fate of Galactus Timmacus.

If I recall how Stardock handled the GalCiv series.... the patchs are free and available *ONLY* for those who have a registered key for the game.
I don't troll the Stardock forums often enough to know if anyone was able to pirate the patches.

So Surf how are you gonna justify stealing the patch?
Hey, if he stole a $40 game, what's a free patch? That comes with it, right?
Notice how that fucking cunt, after his bold proclamations on how he was going to buy the game, has disappeared from these threads. I love how these thieves are always bragging on how they buy stuff "later", which ofcourse they never do.
Maybe someday someone will break into the asswipe's home and steal all his shit.
I wish Blue would just ban fucking pirates.

I just finished a 9hr+ game playing one small random 1v1 map vs. the computer! I set the other race as an easy random. I definitely learned a lot so future small 1v1 shouldn't take as long...I hope. The patch supposedly made the pirates less of a problem but I still had some issues since most of the game I spent fighting off pirates.
This game is definitely a classic though. I've only played as TEC so far so I still have many hours ahead of me to learn the other races.

Could care less about campaigns, I always skip them and go right to skirmish. I want to play my way and with all units at my beck and call, with no scripted bullshit

A lack of a campaign might hurt Sins in the long run. I think the majority of PC gamers, guys who play casually, like to feel attached a games races, characters and mainly buy games to "beat" games. Having a good story is an underrated aspect of RTS games IMO. Right now Sins is looking like a Kohan redux. Revolutionary gameplay with a weakass background story tacked on.

They really need a campaign to continue that storyline. It's a shame they do not. I imagine that will be an expansion, that will hopefully also include the (playable) race the Vasari are running from.

I saw the intro video for this game. The story sounds cool you got one race who banished members of their own race from a planet and now this race wants revenge and is attacking them. Then you got another race who is constantly running away from some unknown enemy that hunts them down and nobody ever survives to describe them. This race is always running away and is attacking the first race. So you got one race getting squeezed by 2, one of which is itself being squeezed. They really need a campaign to continue that storyline. It's a shame they do not.

So Surf how are you gonna justify stealing the patch? The same way he justifies his feelings about other men. The devil made him do it.

If the campaign is done as well as Homeworld's, it would be worth it.
If it's just some icon with minor animation and text, it's gonna suck.

Talking head strategy SP campaigns can't hold my attention either. I never bothered with Supcom or COH's campaigns.

All the campaign would be is a series of skirmish battles (that's pretty much what it is in most strategy games). I focus on the skirmish modes anyway, so I don't miss it at all. I'd rather have it missing than a crappy one.

| I don't personally think the omission of a campaign is any big deal. I've played GalCivII (and the expansions) a LOT and I've never once played the campaign. I personally prefer sandbox games with random maps. |

No SP campaign. The one thing that probably keeps the game from going down in history as epic. Skirmish is fun against AI though, which is all the game is unless playing online. They missed a crazy opportunity to have a rich story unfold the gameplay in a campaign.
