but using that money that is going into NASA to fund the same kind of research but give them money to other organizations, schools, business, research groups affiliated with universities; etc. 17 billion spent that way will get more done then NASA could with 55 trillion dollars.

I can agree with that....

I agree with you Jim that I think lots of money should be put into scientific research; it benefits all of human kinds. Plus, I do scientific research and the more money the easier my life is.

However, NASA is a horribly run organization, always has been; too much bureaucracy. I am all for ditching NASA, but using that money that is going into NASA to fund the same kind of research but give them money to other organizations, schools, business, research groups affiliated with universities; etc. 17 billion spent that way will get more done then NASA could with 55 trillion dollars.

And then replace NASA with another organization with a small budget and is only responsible for man-made satellite placement, tracking, etc.

Actually,

Rat is wrong, it is a very misunderstanding in the Western world. To be correct, it is the year of the mouse.

I live in Shanghai, and it is based on the Chinese folklore. The reason why many people in the Western world got it wrong is becaue of the chinese char 鼠, it stands for both mouse and rat. But in china, we add a char before it to indicate which is which. In the folklore story it goes "lao shu" or "mouse" and not "da shu" or "rat".

Hope you don't mind

Are you aware of the AMOUNT?

Yea, about $17 billion total NASA budget.

Yeah I'm one of those weirdos who thinks we should spend lots of money on scientific research and space exploration. Compared to all the other crap our taxes are spent on, NASA is one of the few things I'm happy to pay my taxes for.

I think we should be spending more money on it. Sure the shuttle is not the safest and most efficient way of flying to space, at least we currently have an active manned space program. I wish the public would care more about it though.

Are you aware of the AMOUNT?

Public funds - no.
Private funs - ok.

I wonder which shows my age worse, that I remember the first run of American Gladiators, or that I used the word "fetching."

My vote is for "fetching".

Schweet - although I don't agree with the $ spent on the program, one of the most awe inspiring things I was able to witness in person was a shuttle launch. Amazing.

I'm too young to remember Apollo (born 13 months after the last moon landing) so I can hardly imagine the excitement there was back then for spaceflight.

Anyone else been watching American Gladiators?

I still haven't recovered the IQ points lost from occassionally watching the original.

that "Crush" girl turns my crank...then I found out why - she was a Muay Thai boxer...

Wow, I didn't realize Gina had gone that route... I just recently caught her in a couple of fights on Showtime and was blown away by her combination of fighting talent, good sportsmanship, and fetching looks.

I may just have to check out the reinvented AGs now.

Anyone see the shuttle launch? Work sucks, I wish I could have seen it.

Yup. I still have the feed running in the background after watching the liftoff and the numerous replays:

Anyone else been watching American Gladiators? Love that show. I caught the first one and then some repeats....that "Crush" girl turns my crank...then I found out why - she was a Muay Thai boxer...I thought I recognized her from somewhere.....meow.

You know - she doesn't really look like she is having fun though, not a lot of energy, just smiles....which is ok with me - I wonder why she decided to do this - she was very successful in Muay Thai.....oh well. Money talks.

Australia releases whaling photos.

That makes me sick - they can try and spin it any way they want - but killing a mother and baby whale.....there is NOTHING scientific about that.

When will people realize there are things we can't replace. These are not cows, mosquitoes, squirrels, rabbits, flies, etc. - there are not an infinite number of them.

I dreamt I was in a movie theatre filled with people and we were watching BSG: Razor.

You're 6 months too late, they did that last fall.

You know Blue, I actually heard the rim-shot and the canned laughter when I read that. Well done...
