Yeah i was let down by CoD4, but not dropped on my head because I knew it was made for consoles and it would be watered down to a scripted 'railroad' fest.
Tho my opinion of single player took a real dive the first door I got to... I have to wait for my other team members to open the door for me? Also the infinite enemy's till you hit the 'trigger' for the next segment of the game made it VERRY run-and-gun, which is the polar opposite of tactical.

Rainbow Six Vegas had as much tactical gameplay as a brick. The PC version was so buggy and unfinished it was offensive. UBI will never see another cent from me.

You know, I liked vegas, It was fun in a half-life quake kinda way. But I wish they would stop calling it a tactical shooter. And I wish someone would make another REAL Rainbow 6 game.

Maybe it's just me but I'm getting pretty tired of highly linear, scripted shooters. CoD4 was a thoroughly "blah" experience for me, especially with the infinitely respawning enemies. If a game has realistic weapons, settings, characters, etc, it shouldn't feel like you're running through a haunted house. The only shooters that should be highly linear and highly scripted are the ones that are over-the-top, letting you dodge projectiles and move really fast.

The funny thing is when Raven Shield came out it was decried as catering to the dumbed-down crowd! Of course, compared to Rainbow 6 and Rogue Spear and its addons, it was. In R6 you could win a mission in 2 minutes and never have to fire a shot yourself--just plan for what your teams should do, give them fire/hold/go commands, and watch a job well done. In RvS, you didn't have that whole "storm the room NOW...down! down! Clear!" vibe in the same way.
R6 Vegas was a good game, but like GRAW it doesn't really deserve to be called "R6" just like GRAW shouldn't be called "Ghost Recon." The dialog in GRAW is laughable "I don't have a name, colonel, I'm a Ghost!" They're new games, what I would call FPS w/tactical elements. R6, Rogue Spear, Ghost Recon 1...those were tactical shooters.

Take it for what it was: an R6 spinoff like Ghost Recon. Vegas was pretty solid as a shooter.
It was in Vegas, did you really expect it to be Rogue Spear 2 or something? Please. |

Well it may have taken a tactical dive from the previous games but I enjoyed it. I had a blast co-oping through it with my friend, the casino levels were great fun and sweet to look at. The T's voices were rediculous but I got to say they were funny as hell at times.
EDIT my biggest complaint would be the stupid save system combined with tactically impossible situations, I can replay the same 20min only so many times before it gets unenjoyably fustrating.

PC, Xbox 360, and PS3 editions of the tactical shooter sequel Sequel: Yes, by name only Tactical Shooter: Huwha?! How is it a tactical shooter when you take all that tactical aspects of the game out? Its "tactical" because your in "SWAT" getup? You have real life weapons not 5,000,000 round chainguns?
And about the PC elitist remarks: I don't consider myself one. Far from it. Im just sick and tired of playing fantastic games on PC, frothing at the mouth for the sequel and receiving a flaming bag of shit. If they make a sequel and its the same as the one before with more maps and maybe bumped graphics, meh, so be it. But if its worse that what came out before the fuckit.
I bought UT3. Is it more of the same? Yes. Do I hate it for that? No. Id rather see a game stay the same from version to version than have features ripped from it dumbing it down.

I enjoyed R6V just because it allowed me and my friends the chance to play cooperatively on the PC... something that is very hard to find these days. I missed the strong tactical experience that came with the earlier Rainbows, but I was able to enjoy it for what it was.
My only real issue with the game is the lack of options for the server. I hate when developers decide for the player that they have to play a certain way, i.e. "we're not even going to give you the OPTION to respawn in Terrorist Hunt mode". Sure, there's a rabid and vocal user base out there that demanded that they NOT give that option (which makes no sense to me), but why not give the option and let us CHOOSE which server types to play on?

I personally didn't like Vegas at all. Way to scripted and by the time you were 1/4 the way through it, you knew right where mobs were gonna pop up before the game did :p Definitely not remotely as good as the earliest games in the series.
Sold well, but thats just because console players don't know what a good FPS really is :p

R6V wasn't bad, but it has some glaring issues especially when compared to the previous games in the franchise. Mainly that it's all centered around Vegas. I thought the main issue was that the level design was extremely linear and heavily scripted, with terrorists popping out of closets when you stepped on the appropriate triggers.

proves my point exactly You've made no points, except perhaps "having a strong opinion about games is bad".
Are you averse to gamers who feel passionately about games? Should we all adopt the same irreverent opinions adopted by the majority of online gaming publications?
You have as many games as posts and that proves..you don't spend enough time playing one game to be anything but a casual gamer? I wish I had that much of my currency to spread around on games. I value the few games I can afford. For me, it isn't a play and forget hobby.
Just because you don't like the way a series changes doesn't mean it's worthless or that others won't enjoy it. I don't like the way the series has degraded. Please argue that it hasn't degraded, that the changes are for the positive. Rainbow Six: Vegas should have been released as an action FPS under a different name. Too bad you can't comprehend some of us lamenting the loss of this franchise. Pulling the "PC elitist" card every time an opinion is voiced that doesn't amount to back slapping makes you look fucking shallow. This comment was edited on Feb 5, 13:08. |

You have to remember with nin he could kill you alone with his collection of games.
And if anything ever happened to Blue, nin would take over the world.

That would be great if the base problem were gameplay "choices" made at the dev/design level.
When you are talking about not fixing sound loops in the game, or making it unplayable in any competitive mode, you are then releasing a shabby product.

I'd gladly take Rogue Spear/Raven Shield with updated graphics over the somewhat entertaining action/arcade game that is the Vegas series.

I doubt it would matter what ubi did. 50% of you would say "I wanted Raven Shield with better graphics!" and the other 50% would say "This is the same damn game they released X years ago!" It happens to Epic all the time. wahhhhhh

15000 posts here and you don't play PC games enough to care about them? Shit. I feel bad for you. I play a shit load of pc games. Right now I have Sins of a Solar Empire, the GalCiv Add-on, Crysis, Sam and Max, WOW, COD4, and UT3, all vying for my attention.
I play a shitload of 360 games. Including Vegas, Burnout, Mass Effect, Ace Combat, and Rock Band.
I play a shitload of PSP games. I play a shitload of DS games. I even try to find time to play the Wii, that's collecting dust right now, because of everything else.
Just because you don't like the way a series changes doesn't mean it's worthless or that others won't enjoy it.
I love how consolists sit there and accept any old watered-down crap that is thrown their way and lap it up!
Wade proves my point exactly with his post. He is a PC elitist. Thank you, Wade.

Okay... a console port is one thing... a bad console port is a different story.
Not even coding the "password" box into the engine so that you can't lock a server into the game? That's just poor work.
Sure the xbox 360 version has locked rooms that you invite people into via XBox Live - well then port a similar feature to the PC - don't just give up on locking servers altogether.
Those are the kinds of problems vegas shipped with - and if vegas 2 ships the same way, I'll be keeping my cash.
