FlatOut Ultimate Carnage Coming to PCs

This Silverstar Empire Interactive press release announces plans to bring FlatOut Ultimate Carnage to the PC platform this June (thanks Gamer's Hell). Word is series originator Bugbear Entertainment is working on a PC edition of the game, which appeared for Xbox 360 this past summer:

BOCA RATON, Fla., Feb. 1, 2008 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Empire Interactive, a wholly owned subsidiary of Silverstar Holdings (Nasdaq:SSTR), announced the PC-DVD ROM version of the best selling arcade racer "FlatOut Ultimate Carnage" is being prepared for a June 2008 worldwide release.

The FlatOut series has enjoyed worldwide success across multiple formats, selling more than 2 million copies and winning numerous awards, including FlatOut II named Xbox(r) "Best Racing Game of 2006". FlatOut Ultimate Carnage for Xbox 360(tm) was released to critical acclaim in June 2007. The next installment in the FlatOut franchise, FlatOut Head On for the Sony PSP, is due for release on March 14, 2008. And now, the award-winning Finnish creator of FlatOut, Bugbear Entertainment, is developing FlatOut Ultimate Carnage for PC.

While simulation racers have traditionally found their home on PCs, FlatOut Ultimate Carnage blurs the line between arcade and simulation. PC gamers can have a "deathproof" experience with Carnage gameplay modes and enhanced graphics that rival the Xbox 360 version. Multiplayer online provides wheel-to-wheel action as opponents try to fishtail other cars and get across the finish line in a "no holds barred" extreme driving smash fest.

"Research suggests that arcade racers are becoming ever more popular on the PC, with the Xbox 360 controller providing the perfect way to enjoy the genre," said Ian Higgins, CEO of Empire Interactive. "Ultimate Carnage is an entirely new prospect for PC, and we're excited to be bringing FlatOut's unique gameplay experience to PC gamers everywhere."

Clive Kabatznik, CEO of Silverstar Holdings said, "The FlatOut series has been a global success story for Empire. With more than 2 million unit sales globally, the FlatOut franchise is an important part of our game portfolio and we are confident FlatOut Ultimate Carnage for PC will add to our ongoing success and bring new fans to the title."

Jussi Laakkonen, business development director of Bugbear Entertainment, noted, "Since announcing the Xbox 360 release we've witnessed fanatical anticipation and demand for FlatOut Ultimate Carnage on PC. It gives us great pleasure to bring this mayhem to the PC, for which FlatOut fans across the globe have long been clamouring!"

Euro version Flatout 2 use StarForce, US version use Securom. Ya using StarForce woulkd be a deal breaker for me.

Just got this info from email from BugBear today:

The FOUC PC version is identical to the FOUC 360 version, so unfortunately the changes you propose can't be implemented.

So no 12 car racing online, only offline.

I'm pretty sure that Flatout 2 used Securom or something, not Starforce. And I highly, highly doubt any publisher in their right mind would use Starforce now.

Didn't Flatout 2 have starforce or something similar? I can't get it out of my head that it did and I certainly won't be buying the new one if it follows suit...

...which would be a bummer because I would certainly buy it if it didn't have it. I loved Flatout 2, until I heard it was sabotaged.

Well it cant really be argued that a controller is better then a keyboard for steering a car.

Uh, yes it can? The analog sticks on a gamepad allow you to make variable movements whereas keyboard keys have set input, making such movements impossible.

But a USB Wheel/Pedal peripheral blows them both away! Hahaha!

Flatout with guns? I'd buy it. Then again I'd be happy with a Forza 2/Mechwarrior 4 hybrid

but PCs and racing games just never feel quite right. Kind of a comfort factor

PC in bedroom + Wireless XBOX controller = mindless racing games while lounging, with better graphics.

something as utterly brainless as a racing game

I guess you don't play many racing simulations like RACE 07 then.

FlatOut Ultimate Carnage is basically a remake of FlatOut 2 with much enhanced graphics. I enjoyed FlatOut 2 so I'm all for this prettier version.

Why is this news?

More to the point WHY?

Seriously I will play a racing game on a console once in a while - but PCs and racing games just never feel quite right. Kind of a comfort factor - if I want something as utterly brainless as a racing game I would much rather be lounging on the sofa.

The opposite is also true - FPS are ALWAYS on the pc. I'd rather wait for a crappy port the deal with a controller.

FlatOut: Head On is a PSP game, I think.

Instead of the skill games I wished they'd go with a weapon mode to take advantage of the dynamic damage on the cars.
