MS is the dinosaur that will dissapear sooner than later. Does Yahoo really want to chain themselves to that sinking stone?
Google is the Federation. MS/Yahoo = the Borg. The Borg could not adapt fast enough and were far too cumbersome which is what their undoing was. MS and Yahoo don't need to merge. They need to evolve. the fact that they want to merge just shows how Borg-like their mentality is and why they are ultimately doomed.

Exactly right, kx. The reason I got the Yahoo account in 2004 was because I was tired of losing my account when I moved.
The Thunderbird client looks interesting. I'll give it a whirl with my Gmail account. If it works out maybe I can save myself $20 a year. |

Your freakin Internet Service Provider? You are already paying for the damn thing. For years I did but whenever I changed ISP carriers migrating to the new ISP's email address sucked big-time! Several years ago I switched to Yahoo premium webmail and it was great. That was until I discovered Gmail.
You could read your email with Gmail, and use Thunderbird to POP/backup your email whenever. And you never need to worry about your email. Gmail is free. Thunderbird is free. Free free free!

*shrug* $20 is nothing. I spend more on dinner on a regular basis. $20 for ad free mail is more than worth it IMHO. If someone can point me to ad-free mail for less, I'm all ears. Your freakin Internet Service Provider? You are already paying for the damn thing.

Strange that you have to pay for less features. The "less" I'm getting is NO ads. Well worth for a page I see multiple times a day.
Can't say the same for the red-and-yellow pulsating banner ads in Yahoo Mail. Oh and I can POP my Gmail for free. Can't do that with Yahoo mail unless I pay $20 a year. So, yeah, Yahoo you can suck it! *shrug* $20 is nothing. I spend more on dinner on a regular basis. $20 for ad free mail is more than worth it IMHO. If someone can point me to ad-free mail for less, I'm all ears.

I have a Gmail account but don't use it, can't stand it because of the ads. On a 1920 x 1200 display the TEXT ads are so far over to the right I don't even notice them. Can't say the same for the red-and-yellow pulsating banner ads in Yahoo Mail. Oh and I can POP my Gmail for free. Can't do that with Yahoo mail unless I pay $20 a year. Costs me $20 a year but I get EXACTLY what I want. Mail and NOTHING but mail. No ads, no weather map, nothing but my mail. Strange that you have to pay for less features.

Yeah this purchase would be all about the user base of yahoo mail. Yahoo mail has the most users as a webmail application, with Hotmail coming a close second. If Microsoft gets Yahoo Mail, then they will pretty much own the entire webmail user base.

Wait... Yahoo mail is cluttered compared to Gmail? Huh?
I can only assume you use the free version and it is much different. I've had "Mail Plus" since Oct 2004. Costs me $20 a year but I get EXACTLY what I want. Mail and NOTHING but mail. No ads, no weather map, nothing but my mail.
I have a Gmail account but don't use it, can't stand it because of the ads.
I can't believe Microsoft buying Yahoo would be anything but bad news for Yahoo mail. |
