| Yeah, that mirrors my feelings on the game. Was interested, but as details came out and things changed my interest steadily went down. By the time it came out it was a, "only if I hear really good things from lots of people" -- which obviously didn't happen. |

Oops I seem to have mis-clicked. While I'm here, if you happen to be on the fringe about buying this game, don't do it. Worst 50 dollars I've spent in a long time. So bad, in fact, that I had to force myself to finish a full playthrough of the game. Ray's post says it all.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I was so excited about this game then as more and more information came out I steadily began to lose my enthusiasm. Supposed to be first person view, then it became third person by default (though you could change it in game). No save games. They adopted the same retarded system they used for Diablo 2.
I bought the game and only got a little ways into it. I keep meaning to get back to it but I know I never will.

I was really interested in the original game, in what was discussed, nearly-promised, the (then) intended direction of the game, and the early marketing material.
As time went on, I started to have some questions about the game - some previews talked about some issues with the game, Roper and crew started making some small comments about changing things in the game, some scaling back of the ideas.
This went on and on for a bit and I was still excited about the game, but I started to become hesitant; I went from thinking I would probably buy the game at launch to really needing to see how - what - it turned out to be.
Then, I saw a preview video on, of all things, G4 and I was literally shocked at what I saw. It blew my mind, but in all the wrong ways; even from the short segment I saw, the game just seemed really shallow, really simple, lacking in depth, lacking in A.I., generally shoddy, etc. It turned all my ideas about the game upside down and make me really worried that this "MMOG" was going to be some simple action game. Further, though it was still some time away, it seemed like a really weak, budget action game. Not that I post as much here, but I did change the tone of my posts - I was really worried about the title, I was wondering if anybody else had seen the terrible video I had seen, I was worried about the overall game.
Things just went completely negative from there. A few more videos were released online and they were worse than the G4 videos I had seen, essentially confirming the "quality" of the game. Then came the various changes to the game, the limitations, the pay-to-play scheme, the confusion over what the game would be, the confusion over what people would get in the box versus the paid content, the confusion over how much of a true MMOG this would be, etc.
I couldn't begin to properly explain the successive waves of crappy news/previews/changes, but it got to the point where I really had no intention what so ever of playing the game. It was clear this was not going to be the original game I fell in love with the idea of, but I would play the demo in some smal, crazy hope that game would have, I don't know, some redeeming factor or some bit of unique charm to it.
Then came the demo. I said it then and I'll state it again - that game is a piece of sh*t. At the time of posting, I was a bit concerned at the amount of hatred I felt for the demo, but looking back at what I said, I am surprised that I did not slam the demo/game even more.
Released by some no-name developer for a $20 (or less) price tag, this is an okay first attempt or budget game. Under those circumstances, I may give it a five or six out of ten. For what this game was originally planned to be, for what this game should have been, for the people working on this game, for the publisher (and you know I have no love for EA,) for the subscription fee, this game is an abomination.
There are technically "worse" games, but this game so utterly failed in every way that I think it is an abomination unto the market. For what it should have been, this is my pick for worst game of 2007 and very likely the worst game I have played in the last five to ten years.
I know I have wonky ideas, I know I can be seen as a dick, I know I can be seen as a snob, but I am utterly disgusted by this game. It honestly offends me that such blatant crap is shoveled on gamers. Even with all the crap we endure in this industry, I am aghast that a title like this is released and all the things it stands for (pushing out a title no matter what, gouging the end user, ripping off the original purchaser, lack of actual creativity, abusing the MMOG term, complete disregard for the market, etc.)
As usual, blaming...you :o, Ray Honestly? Roper has no f*ck*ng idea what he is doing. But he'll charge you $10 a month for it. ----- I'm looking for some alien toilet to park my bricks; who's first? http://www.livejournal.com/users/raymarden/ I love you, mom. A whopping 3 character slots, out of the box. Want more? Pay more!
They actually removed this one, so I've heard. Box buyers get a bunch more online character slots now.

I totally missed the hype machine on this one, never really bothered to look into purchasing it with my next to zero play time...
However, the idea behind this seems interesting - why all the vitriol towards it? Let's see: Boring gameplay (click...click...click) Ugly assed random maps with the same tile set, over and over. Ads in game, even if you pay their... Stupid assed subscription that intentionally withheld features from the boxed version A whopping 3 character slots, out of the box. Want more? Pay more! Oddles of shipping bugs
Seriously, try the demo, and see what a load of shit the game truly is.
