More GameSpot Review Fallout

A farewell blog post on GameSpot by reviewer Frank Provo references the firing of editor Jeff Gerstmann (story, story, story, story, story, and story) as his reason for departing the site after seven years (thanks Kotaku). His criticism is aimed at GameSpot parent CNet, saying he believes their management "let Jeff go for all the wrong reasons," going on to say "I believe CNet intends to soften the site's tone and push for higher scores to make advertisers happy." He concludes expressing sympathy for the GameSpot staff, saying: "For such upstanding people, the CNet overloads have created the ultimate soul-crushing work environment."

The entire media industry the world over amounts to nothing more than a way to make money by entertaining the masses, distribute propaganda to those masses, and cover up the truth with more bullshit than can be sorted out.

I work for the Evil Empire. I see this same type of shit almost everyday. I have to listen to my manager spewing bullshit practically every mourning with a straight face. While I just sit there and take swings at the shit she is shoveling.

They hate it when you question their lies, their common sense, and pointing out all the contradictions is like salt in the wounds.

And you know what... that is exactly why I get all the shit work in the worst areas (while she is in the office at least). I don't mind. I do my jobs one at a time. And I would rather take the shit work than to kiss ass like 75% of the people I work with.

You speak up, tell them you're not believing the shit they are feeding you, and they do what they can to make your life a bit more difficult. Funny thing is they are too stupid to realize something so simple... were I work my numbers help make her numbers. And her numbers help to make her boss's numbers. So I get to stick it to them twice while speaking my mind and doing my job the way it should be done. The right way... not letting quantity over-shadow quality.

He (Jeff) knows why he got fired. I would like to know if he thinks it was worth it? And I commend his friend for stick up for what is right. But they may as well be pounding their heads against a brick wall. Nothing will change in this capitalistic country we live in. Money is everything.

Plus it takes unity to make changes and in today's society nobody cares about anyone but themselves. Well, ok... 95% of the populace at least. There are always those few who fight the power. Though it is always a loosing battle...

Edit: And all you blue-collar people who think the Unions are bad better wake up before it's too late. Unions are being squashed under the boot of giant corporations. The same corporations that are the puppet masters running our governments on the local, state, and federal levels. The USA has less than 10% of it's work-force represented by unions. Compare that to the other developed countries and you'll fully understand.

I had some rich doctor tell me while I was working at his home, "The unions are ruining this country". I looked at him with a puzzled expression and said, "That's funny I always thought it was the corporations running this country."
