I installed Vista 32 a few weeks ago to get a feel for it. Most of the crap that annoys you is easily turned off, and to be honest it feels more responsive than XP. With that said, there is a performance hit, but nothing that I feel is a big deal considering that it is a new OS (performance hits are normal, 98>XP was the same way).

The gaming difference it's meant to me with a 7950GX2 is that I've had to go from 2xAA to none. That, and you'd be well advised to stuff in 4GB of RAM, even if you run 32 bit. Vista is a memory hog.

I can't really speak on the rest of the OS, as Linux is my primary desktop/productivity OS. Yes, that's right. I shelled out all that cash just to get DX10---I know, there is something wrong with me.

Complicity, then just dual boot XP and Vista.
And install all your games on a shared partition between the two. Sure you will still have to "install" the games on both OS's, but that is just to setup the registry keys and such; you will then not be having 2 copies of the 5 gig data files.

I use Vista on my laptop and there are still some serious fucking issues with it that just annoy the hell out of me.

Since Crysis looks crazy pretty in DX9 and runs great, I am in no hurry to upgrade to Vista on my desktop.

Only thing I am 100% looking forward to is GTA4.

Die hard GTA fan. (didn't like SA)

Therefore, after getting a trillion of hours of use of my PS2, I will be making the jump to the next console.....I have decided to go with the sexbox360, since my future bro in law got the PS3, no need for me to get one, and I really like the downland content to add onto games on the 360, just seems to be more to do - and sounds like a ton more to download for GTA4.

So yes, I will once again be restricted to the couch.

Enahs, very cool that you finally got your hands on Syberia 2... Best adventure games I'd played in a long time, both 1 and 2.

I'm just starting Post Mortem by Microids, the same guys that did Syberia but is older. They also made Still Life which I liked for the most part but it only felt like half a game. Apparently they're working on Still Life 2, so wait for the double-pack on that one.

get Vista 64 installed to take advantage of the 4GB of ram I just dropped in
Good luck with that, I'd be interested to know how it goes. Keep me/us updated, would you?

As to what I'm looking forward to, Spore (PC), Super Smash Bros Brawl (Wii), maybe Alan Wake (PC), Left 4 Dead (PC), maybe Fallout 3 (I never played the first 2 though), plus games I couldn't play before due to insufficient hardware, like Bioshock. Perhaps I'll play HL2 over again in super-awesome graphical mode or something too, and high-res TF2 goodness. I'm quite excited at the prospects

I still haven't received my 8800GTS 512M though, so it probably won't be until next week at least now. Stupid Future Shop.

The big question for me, now, is what OS to install. I have... concerns, with Vista, from using it on my work machine for 6 months when it first came out on MSDN last November. In April, I formatted and went back to XP because I just couldn't take all the little quirks and hiccups and outright broken-ness of it every day. Over my xmas holiday, I reinstalled it on my work laptop (out of necessity, since my machine's networking hardware died and I replaced whole device) and I'm going to give it another go, to see if it rekindles my hatred.

Enahs, very cool that you finally got your hands on Syberia 2... I played that one when I was working nights in my NOC job a couple of years ago. Best adventure games I'd played in a long time, both 1 and 2.

What's the easiest way to resize photos in Vista? You know, like the image resizer powertoy in XP?

gokart of a Saturn

1998 Hyundai Elantra wagon here... kinda scary going through CT at 50MPH on I95 and I84 with partly-bald front tires yesterday morning...

Once I got into Massachusetts I got off the second (third?) exit which dropped me off onto route 20 in Palmer (waaay past west of Worcester, in the middle of the state!). I took that eastbound all the way home, save for a stop at the local Denny's that I used to frequent, for a quick driving break...

EDIT: Discussing timing belts now, as the one on my car has to be done (it passed 60,000 miles on the way back). Easy job or no?

It (Assassin's Creed) is schedules for Feb 12th release on the PC.

Also, I started playing Super Mario Galaxy today (it was a Christmas present), it is pretty damn fun too.

And I do not have a PS3 or X360, punk!

Hey, does anyone have any suggestions for some good quality headphones for the pc? the ones i'm using are walmart specials for guild chat, but they just hurt and are not good quality. I'd like something with great sound and, if possible, be wireless. i'm tired of smashing the cable in my desk drawers.

Sennheiser HDs are pretty much the audiophile headphones of choice.

And no, Assassin's Creed isn't out for PC.

But it is currently $40 for the PS3 and 360 versions at Best Buy.

haha, i almost went off the road a few times tonight. Cleveland is gettin another big ol' snowstorm and I77 was just crap. Passing at 65 in a gokart of a Saturn on snowcovered highway = bad idea. Not to mention my wipers do more harm than good at this point in their lives.

Love winter, driving is so fun

Syberia 2 wasn't as great as the original, but i still thought it was great. And isn't Assassins Creed already out on the PC?

I got my 8800GT 512mb overclocked edition yesterday!

Nice.

I got two brand-new all-weather tires and an alignment for my car, so I can finally grip the road and not worry about veering off course while holding the steering straight. I could've bought a new mobo and proc for the money spent, but road safety is just a wee bit more important.

Ach well.

In chat now, if anyone's around.

I got my 8800GT 512mb overclocked edition yesterday!

Freakin schweet!

I only got a X2 4200+ CPU, which is the limiting factor, but still. Crysis and Gears Of War runs beautifully on it.
Everything runs great. I did have my CPU overclocked, but my PSU can just barely power the video card and everything else. I mean, right now no multiplayer gaming with it as there is such little power the wireless dies! Gotta get a new PSU. I can not overclock the CPU right now do to lack of power; so once I get a new PSU performance should be better.

As for games I am looking forward to.

Spore, sorta.
The new expansion for GalCiv II (Twilight of the Arnor).
Sins of a Solar Empire, as well.
Same two as Bucky, heh!
Hoping for an expansion pack to Portal!
Alan Awake, maybe.
DNF? Maybe? Near the end of the year?!
Fallout 3? Maybe?
Starcraft 2? Maybe this year?
Sam and Max Season 2
C&C 3: Kane's Wrath, as well.
Tiberium, maybe?
Assassin's Creed PC port?
Chrome 2. I enjoyed the first 1 enough.

Also, I know it will be short, even with the expanded PC edition. But I really am digging Gears of War right now. It might have been over hyped, but it is still fun. Crysis is fun too so far, and beautiful.

I also finally got my hand on a copy of Syberia II today, I finally get to finish the story! Turns out you can buy it online from the developer!

My video card also came with Company of Heroes, so I shall deal some damage to that as well.

What are we all looking forward to gaming-wise this year?

GCII: Twilight of the Arnor (Unique tech trees!)
Sins of a Solar Empire
Left 4 Dead
C&C 3: Kane's Wrath
Age of Conan OR Warhammer Online

That's just off of the top of my head. What I'm really looking foward to is my 8800GT, since it should be here tomorrow. Then I'll OC my E6600 (I've already had it to 3.0 without any voltage change) and get Vista 64 installed to take advantage of the 4GB of ram I just dropped in.

The first thing I'm doing is re-playing Bioshock in all it's glory.

Same to you Blue, and to everyone else here. Here's to 2008 being a good one.

What are we all looking forward to gaming-wise this year? For me, it's Gran Turismo 5, Grand Theft Auto IV and I'll be keeping an eye on that id game to see how it turns out.
