Out of the Blue

Happy Festivus! Last night when we realized Festivus had turned, we dug out the Seinfeld season 9 DVD, which was a birthday gift from my brother, and watched the Festivus episode, which was a fun way to mark the occasion.

We actually had part of our family Christmas celebration before that yesterday at my dad's. We did not, however, have the feats of strength, and very little airing of grievances, so a very pleasant time was had by all.

Festivus Links! Thanks Ant and Mike Martinez.

Mayo and MW both have their place in certain foods and salads. I prefer the zest of MW.

Any recommended eating establishments?

Depending on if you take 95S the whole way or if you happen to find yourself on 301/50 from Delaware into Maryland. Make sure to stop at exit 46 and go to Fisherman's Inn. They have the best Prime Rib on the East Coast. It's right before you go over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge (scenic moment you were looking for)

Helmann's Mayonnaise all the way for me!

You realize that Helmann's and Best Foods are the same. right?

At the same time that Hellmann's Mayonnaise was flourishing in the East, Best Foods, Inc., introduced mayonnaise to Californian consumers. As Hellmann's expanded on the east coast, Best Foods proved to be a smashing success in the West. It was nearly inevitable that in 1932 Richard Hellmann Inc. was acquired by Best Foods, Inc. To this day, Hellmann's Mayonnaise is sold east of the Rockies and Best Foods Mayonnaise is sold west.

http://www.bestfoods.com/history.aspx

I've known that for years, never figured it would come in handy in discussion.

Miracle Whip is Real Mayo with sugar added and they both are the suxors!
If any of you are worried about excess weight, just think every tablespoon you slab on anything just directly being stored as fat in your body and never digesting, just sitting there like you in your computer chairs and couches.

Seriously everyone try to stay safe, healthy and sane for the holidays.

The people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country.

Thanks!

I was thinking more along the lines of "pull over the side of the road and have a quick Kodak moment", though.

That'd be a little difficult on the highway, but if I ever need to stop for gas/food/other stuff I might as well take a little leisure time and snap a few shots.

I'm going to be heading down to Virginia (by car, from MA) in a few days (26th) to visit a schoolmate, and will be sure to take my camera for photos... any points of interest there or along the way? Any recommended eating establishments?

I know some find it lame, but I personally think Luray Caverns.
http://www.luraycaverns.com/

It really is beautiful in there, and kind of amazing. Out of all of the places my parents used to drag me to on our road trips, that is the one place I liked (besides the amusement parks).

It's not for everyone, so read about it first. I'd imagine flash photography is kosher, but check that out too. However it's not like a 10 minute thing. You'd need to dedicate like 30-60 minutes to it.

For scenic stuff, I heard the Blue Ridge Parkway is also nice. But I don't remember enough about it.

Hey guys,

I'm going to be heading down to Virginia (by car, from MA) in a few days (26th) to visit a schoolmate, and will be sure to take my camera for photos... any points of interest there or along the way? Any recommended eating establishments?

Any sections of road to avoid due to heavy traffic, etc?

Here's a good holiday controversy:

Miracle Whip = teh sux

Real Mayo = Woot!

Have to concur. And to stir the pot even more Dukes is the best!

Well, I prefer Best Foods Real Mayo, but my dad likes Miracle Whip and I really don't like the stuff. C'mon Bats, I thought you knew better than this....

Don't be such a condiment bigot. Both have their place in the wide wild world of sandwich construction. Miracle Whip mixed with Beaver's Sweet Hot Mustard is quite yummy.

Miracle Whip is just for poor people and rednecks.
