30 you say?! So when can we expect the red porche purchase?

I do not care for Porsches much.

An Ariel Atom, on the other hand...

I am convinced that an official Red Ryder carbine-action 200-shot range model BB rifle with a compass in the stock makes the perfect gift.

For me, it would be a personal music studio with a full version of Ableton Live, with a variety of analog and digital synthesizer hardware tossed in.

20. Compy question Dec 20, 2007, 21:38 Dan =0)

So, I'm going to quite possibly NOT visit this family I know tomorrow if I can talk them over the phone about how to display video on their (non-HD) TV (or tell them it's not possible) from their basic Dell Dimension system that just happens to have TV-Out, but the situation is thus:

Dell Dimension 2400 (I think?) system has 15" LCD monitor attached via the old D-sub connector, and S-video out is connected to one of the inputs to the TV in their living room.

I'm unclear on this part, but from what I understood, they bought some subscription to watch Czech programs over the 'net via RealPlayer, which displays happily on their LCD, but when switching over to their TV - or if both LCD and TV are displaying the screen otherwise fine, say, like a web page that has an embedded video - the square where the video would be on the TV is completely black. I have to note that, obviously, the TV is displaying at a lower and weird res such that the text and lines come out "fuzzy", though this hasn't stopped my own iBook from playing videos on their TV...

Now, I told them I'd stop by, but I'm unsure if this is even doable due to some weird form of DRM or another video problem. I know that, since last time I was there several months ago, the drivers were up-to-date, but I don't see how the possibility of even a slightly out-of-date driver would prevent the basic concept of playing video of that sort.

All "RealPlayer sucks"-type comments aside, anyone have any suggestions, or know if this should even work? Thanks in advance!

Thanks guys...

I celebrated by having chinese sausage and udon noodles for dinner, after helping my mother's old former neighbor around her shiny new iMac, and shoveling the front and back steps to my apartment tonight. Yay!(?)

Now just listening to music at half speed for the hellofit, 'cause I can... ("Gong" by Sigur Ros).

EDIT: I'm in Live Chat now if anyone wants to converse there.

From now on, on my future birthdays (such as when I turn 31 a year from today), I will specifically request no chocolate, cookies or candy in abundance, as I've received waaaaay too much of all three today and during the past three weeks...
