Unreal Tournament 3 Windows Server

The Epic Games Forums now offer downloads of the Windows dedicated server for Unreal Tournament 3 (thanks BeyondUnreal). Word is: "There's one known issue where the install will not exit if you have Windows firewall enabled. Disabling the firewall, or ending the install process when it hangs, both work and the installation will have completed successfully."

Just curious, but where'd you buy it from? I wasn't able to find a single store out of a half-dozen that had it in stock this evening.

Wow guys, I just got UT3 and WOW it's really good! Performs perhaps a little better than the demo did (older drivers). Definitely check out UT3!!

I'm sorry, but the first test box is a computer with a blank install of the OS. That is the very first computer in the Q&A testlab. That computer only has the vanilla OS installed, and then they install the game to see if it runs on the vanilla OS.

Not catching the windows firewall problem is what you would call 'incompetence'.

This is a non-issue for me as any servers have real firewalls, and not this software junk.

I see your point it's a small issue that could have been resolved before launch but it's the window firewall lol!

I do not know any gamers in my cirlce that use it. Maybe on family room PC on top of a real firewall. I doubt that any beta tester would have that enabled on their machine. IF you are the type that is willing to experiment or beta test new software you know there are better free alternatives.

To me this is a non issue.

Yes people still do compatibility testing but let's be realistic... there is more hardware configuration out there than ever before more software available than ever before. If Epic tests every possible scenarios instead of testing the main ones, we would be bitching about the release date being pushed back..

I have to stop typing & leave room for budy & his skateboard comments...

100% of the people who keep Windows' firewall enabled are stupid.
Ummm, did you not notice that the instant that Win XP SP2 came out in 2004, and the windows firewall was turned on by default, all the infamous worms from 2000 to 2004 that would communicate with win xp's open ports and infect computers (a worm replicates via networks and open ports), suddenly stopped being a problem?

Now I agree with you that the lack of windows firewall outbound protection is an issue, and malware can turn off the firewall, but having it on by default for the masses is light years ahead of having no firewall.

And this issue should have been fixed and user should not even have known about. Epic should have test with windows firewall and fixed it before releasing it.

Does anyone do any compatibility testing anymore? I guess that's not the fashion anymore.

I had Windows FireWall blocking my traffic so I took a boshe jack hammer and demolished the damn wall... Now I have a nice view.

No, I use Windows myself and prefer it over any other OS simply for the sheer amount of compatible applications and hardware.

Windows' firewall is about as much protection as one ply toilet paper during a bout with Montezuma's revenge.

it is actually better than nothing, especially the vista firewall.
unless you're just trolling against the fact that they're using windows at all.

Erm... doesn't 95% of Windows users have the firewall enabled? That's a pretty stupid issue.
